Is it normal i dont understand how some things are rude?

I understand stuff like not farting or burping in public, holding the door open, and saying thank you when you recieve a gift are necessary but sometimes just asking for simple information is considered rude.

Example:How much do you make at your job is considered offensive but if someone is a teenager they have no idea what anything costs and they could simply be asking for research purposes so how is that rude? or maybe someone wants to get a similar job and is trying to get prepared so how is asking how much a person makes rude?

I don't make a lot but if someone asked me how much I made I would gladly tell them. Its not like I see money as something to judge someone by. I would probably judge someone more for mooching off mom and dad forever and not TRYING to get work ever just because your lazy.

Having a crappy job is not a character flaw so why is it treated like such? Disagreeing with your parents is also considered rude and asking questions is considered rude. So is being informed rude? If mom and dad say not to do something and you ask "But why" it means you are just a very rude person. In what way are you being rude by simply asking?

Also if this is all considered rude whats a polite way of asking these questions like how much you make?

I think I'm exactly the other way around. I don't really get rudeness at all, *except* for those awkward questions people ask which I think often are rude. Like your money question. You say having a low-paid job isn't a character flaw, but for a lot of people it is. Asking about it is just drawing attention to the fact that they've not accomplished their dreams and have little value as human beings in a capitalist society. That's really demoralising for some people.

Other questions too. I had a friend who asked me adamantly in front of all my other friends if I was bi, because I called out something mildly ignorant he said about bisexual people. I thought that was a really rude, invasive line of questioning too. There are other examples.

If you really can't help yourself, the least impolite way to ask these sort of questions is to not push the point and move on without drawing attention to it if the other person doesn't answer straight away.

Where do you live that disagreeing with your parents and asking questions is considered rude? That sounds like a horrible, repressive society.

    • What about 18 year olds? They are probably not making great money right after graduation and them having a low paying job doesn't mean they are not accomplished. It just means have little to no experience.

Also I understand how asking if someone is gay or not is rude but when your around a lot of gay people you usually get asked. So in certain cases it should be expected.

Also you never heard the saying "Its rude to talk back" or "Children are meant to be seen and not heard"? Since this seems to be what most parents feel and if you don't follow it you are considered rude.

It isn't a case of whether it's right or not. It's a case of the fact that people don't like these issues being drawn attention to, and pointing out reasons why they shouldn't be offended is only drawing more and more attention to it.

Maybe Victorian parents or parents who don't actually know or care what is best for their child, but I don't know any parents like that.

    • You don't do taxes till 18. You do not legally have to do them before that.

Tell that to all the child stars... If you make over a certain amount you most certainly do! In the USA anyway. Where do you live? How old are you?

        • That is assuming everyone becomes a child star.

If you make over a certain amount. A low amount like $10,000 a year. You have to pay taxes on it in the USA. I hope you have to pay a fine for being an idiot.

you an piss people off if your some young dumb kid and you make the same or almost as much as a worker that been working for years. so it better to talk in more nebulous concepts of money, like how much you make in a year
