Is it normal i don't understand why people hate immigrants?

I live in the U.S. and there is a lot of hate towards immigrants here. I find it hypocritical because this country is founded on immigrants. If anyone has the right to complain it is the natives because if you're not native you are an immigrant even if you are something like a 5th generation immigrant. I also love ethnic food and without immigration I wouldn't have such a nice selection of places to eat, which is one thing I love about where I live.

I live in Australia and we have alot of immigrants here, plus asylum seekers (refugees who come by boat from asia and the middle east) I witness an alarming rate of xenophobia here and misplaced hatred. There seems to be this general idea that all islamic people are evil and that muslims are trying to take over the world. This is probably a result of how they've been depicted in the media since 9/11.

There has been much propaganda since and an us vs. them mentality, a good vs. evil thing. Australians love and cherish our laid back attitude and culture and people get quite alarmed when mosques get built and they stop celebrating christmas in schools for fears it may insult people of different religious beliefs. The time has come for tolerance but most people get territorial and think that the immigrants should adapt to our way of life, won't give an inch in the way of adapting to accommodate other ethnic groups.

The fact is we have so much land here and such a low population, population growth is actually good for our country, a country built on multiculturalism in the first place. Many of the people here who hate the immigrants have European ancestory, ancestors who immigrated here in the first half of the 20th century. So it doesn't make alot of sense. How quickly people forget or fail to see the bigger picture.

Yeah, I feel bad on how Muslims get such a bad reputation now. Like people forget we are all people, we all have the same feelings, we all laugh and cry, and get mad or happy. We are all one race.

The most recent example of this ironically was in a comedy special I watched for Gabriel Iglesias, when he were to do a show in Saudi Arabia of all places. Its worth a watch for that as well as to have a fat Mexican giggle like a school girl haha

yeah I mean sure, there are muslim extremists and I acknowledge that. I also acknowledge that some of their terrorism is actually counter-terrorism, when you take into account the high civilian deaths incurred by western world bombings of middle eastern countries, occupation of their sacred holy land due to wars created under false premises. There are extremists in many religions though and it just feels like all the focus is on the actions of so few muslims and the rest get put under the same umbrella.

I have nothing against an immigrant who wants to come here and become an American. But I have a huge problem with immigrants coming here and wanting to change the way we live and what language we speak to accommodate them.
If the Cubans, for instance, love Cuba so much, why don't they just remain there? Why come to the US and not learn the language of the land and expect us to accommodate their way of life in our towns and cities? You can no longer get a decent job in South Florida if you are not at least bilingual (no, bi has nothing to do with sexual preference in this case).
If I am not mistaken, you can get a driver's license test booklet in 19 languages in California. Why? The road signs are all in English, so the applicant needs to understand English to be a capable driver, anyway.
We as a nation, cannot afford to accommodate all these people any more; the economy just can not take the cost. Every immigrant needs to learn OUR language if they want to live and work here; I should not need to learn another language to get a job, go to the market or rent a car in my own country.

  • I don't know one...single...person...who has a problem with immigrants who entered the country legally. Not one...and I know a lot of redneck hillbillies.

You know who has a problem with people who lump ALL immigrants into the same category? Those who went through the LEGAL channels to come here legitimately; like my Vietnamese friend, who not only followed proper procedure to obtain a visa, but became a naturalized citizen. He's pretty unimpressed by those who circumvent the system and get a pass for it.

You know who loves illegal immigrants? Those who undermine labor laws and hire them for slave wages, treating them like sub-humans, undercutting laws that make the free market work. That'd be the big corporations.
That's who's feeding activists to speak out against securing the borders...and encouraging people to paint everyone who opposes ILLEGAL immigration as racists...that's who opposes lawful immigration.

They do...and so do the politicians who want to buy more voting leverage.

    You asked.

  • For North Americans: Unless you're a Native American, you're an immigrant too, or at least the descendant of immigrants.

And, if people subscribe to the 'we conquered them' argument (re: Native Americans), then they should prepare themselves to be 'conquered' by the 'immigrants'.

Times are changing whether everyone approves or not.

This world is getting smaller and people have to adapt and therefore learn to be more tolerant of people who are not exactly like them.

I don't think its immigrants people hate. I think it is probably illegal immigrants. They come get benefits that people in the country are not even allowed and don't ever pay taxes. That would fuck up any system. However people are not intelligent to realize that. We cant expect the entire world to be smart enough to understand such things though. Why the world as a whole is slowly going to shit. Idiots should learn politics before they start asking these stupid questions. Its sad how unintelligent people are becoming. Also you must realize LEGAL immigrants went through getting papers and paid all this money to become legal. However illegal immigrant just come in reap benefits, leave, don't add to the system. They skipped the step of having to test to become legal. Which also is unfair to those who went through the proper papers and testing to get on the system.

Small minded people hate immigrants for various reasons. Usually it is fear of people who they observe as different from themselves. The lack of familiarity with another culture then leads to (often negative) stereotyping and then a progression towards using immigrants as a scapegoat for whatever ills are perceived in society. Hitler managed this rather successfully focussing on minority groups in the early twentieth century.

I think it's understandable to hate the illegal immigrants at least.

Some people go through a lot of trouble to enter a country legally.

Illegal immigrants are basically giving a big F-you to these lawful residents, the citizens, the government, and the laws.

I don't think it's the immigrants themselves they hate, it's the situation. In the US they get a lot of things for free, and seem very entitled. Not all of course, but enough to spark this type of question.

you can blame the situation context but there's still a lot of racism, hatred, and distrust of people who look, talk, and act different and there always will be. I'm not saying that it's right, but people's attitudes are slow to change. We still judge other people based on their culture or how they look before we judge them based on their being human.

Take Sweden as an example: Many people go unemployed and it's a pain in the ass to get a place to live at unless you have a good job already.

I think the current percent of unemployed people are about 20% of the young people, driving many of us to take loans and continue our education just to have SOMETHING to do.

Myself I just feel that since our healthcare, elderly care and schools are becoming more and more shit due to the lack of financial support we do NOT have the economy to provide ILLEGAL immigrants with healthcare, dental care, schools etc ...

First, attend to those people that are in this country legally and make sure that they get to learn the language and don't just put them in ghettos that never leads anywhere good.

And regarding the Muslims; Since I'll assume that most doesn't know a shit about Sweden we are pretty secularised as it is now ( As in very few Swedish are religious) and we have had Jews, Buddhists and the likes here for AGES and neither one of these categories has complained and demanded that native Swedes adjust to our newcomers.

Then again, what I mostly see is politicians or Swedish people that are the ones who complain the most "Oh no, we can't do this because it will offend the Muslims! D:" Sweden should NOT take steps back.

Sadly the only political party that even ACKNOWLEDGES this issue that we are having is kinda the "less of two evils" which has divided out country into "Racists" and "anti-racists"

Worth to mention is also that if an immigrant commits a crime, like rape, it's not a guaranteed deportation out of this country ... He might be out on the streets again within 4-6 Months if the crime wasn't "severe enough"

Had we just decided that EVERY person who wanted to become a citizen of Sweden that committed a severe crime he or she would get deported INSTANTLY regardless of age.

We have enough criminals of our owns and I rather not see this beautiful country be the fucking Dumpster of Europe :C

its normal but........the real reason is simple. they are taking jobs that US people need. and many come here illigally and take jobs that others who are born here could do. that is the issue.

the problem is you cant hate them too much they are just trying to survive. in places like mexico and other places the conditions can be much worse then in the US. because in the US on average the poorest person in the US lives much better then the poorest person in other countries.

hell you got people running around who live in crappy houses but who have ipods and shit.
