First of all I am a female.

Whenever I see female comedians I feel uncomfortable. They usually aren't very funny. Most of their jokes seem to be crude jokes about their vaginas. Female comedians are unattractive. Even if they are physically appealing, in stand up comedy they act in a way that I see as unattractive. I think stand up comedy is something that should be left to the guys because its ok for guys to be crude, blunt, weird, perverted, and gross. Females aren't suppose to be like that.

      It just seems off to me. The female might as well go home, lay back on a couch with her fly unzipped, down a beer, burp, fart, and watch porn. Females can do these things but it seems out of place and unattractive.

        If you think people shouldn't do things because you perceive them as unattractive, you're going to have a hard time remaining sane. I'm pretty sure all women burp and fart, many of them watch porn and many of them drink beer in lazy positions. Saying that other women should conform to your absurd standards of properness is ridiculous. If you think women shouldn't improve the world through comedy for fear of appearing masculine, that says something about you not them.

      It's a good question, but I have to agree with the OP. I don't know why, they just aren't as good at humor as men imo, I'm a woman as well...

      There are very few female characters I like either... I do kinda like the main character of Parks and recreation from what i've seen so far, can't remember her name but I think she was on the daily show, didn't really like her character on there though, but she seems like a nice lady.

      Women can do all those things mentioned while still being "ladylike" that might be an old-fashioned perspective but just my preference

    There are plenty of funny female comedians. If you feel that women should stay out of male driven environments and digress their progression in equality by staying in the kitchen, making sandwiches and only speaking when spoken to, then that seems like a perfectly crippling life style for yourself. (:
    Have fun being treated like crap by men who think you're too silly and incompetent to take care of yourself. I'm sure that will work out just fine for you.

    I've noticed a bit of that myself, but there are some very funny female comedians along with the bad ones. Just like the men; some are brilliant and some are cringe worthy.

      Some male comedians like to bitch about how women are batshit crazy.

      Most gender stereotyping in stand up I find boring and unimaginative. Regardless of which gender is presenting it, I find it falls under the umbrella of "Badly written/presented comedy".

    I'm lucky. I grew up in a family of funny women. Not comedians (who are often either looking for a kind of love that they feel has been denied to them or looking for a way to avoid being picked on). While what those people do to steady their lives might seem to be normal for a comedian (and it is), we should ask ourselves why the majority of them are men. Also, not look at this as men being strong and witty but men being in trouble and avoiding. And we laugh at this?

    We should also think about what this means for someone female and funny. What it generally means is that you are going to be overlooked for your talent. I am a member of a forum that is very female-orientated and at least 90% of the members are female. They are very, very, very funny indeed. While men would use those qualities to attract a woman, the difference in the sexes is that women use it to amuse themselves and each other, not to pick up men. If you don't think women are funny, it's because they're not being funny for you. Not because they're not funny. There is a difference.

    That is so sexist, I think female comedians are funnier than most dudes. Since when can girls not act weird? And you say they are never attractive, have yu never seen Jenna Marbles or Daily Grace or Lisbug? I think they're hilarious!

    To be honest I have only seen one funny female comedian, she was a blind opera singer that occasionally did local stand up. I don't know why but female comedians do seem to generally suck pretty bad.

    There are some great female comics out there, but yeah, it seems as though many are adopting overly crude male personas. YOU DON'T NEED TO BE AN ALPHA MALE AND SWEAR ALL THE TIME TO BE A GOOD COMIC. Christopher Hitchens said something like that when he said that in evolutionary terms, women don't have to be as funny as guys. Conversely, a lot of women like a guy with humor.         It's possible I suppose but I am usually skeptical of sweeping generalities about a group of people based on sex, gender, sexual preference, race, religion, lack of religion, nationality, etc. As far as I'm concerned female comedians are just like male comedians; some are funny and some aren't.

        I also resent some one saying females "should not" be comedians as opposed to just saying you don't enjoy female comedians. It's no different than stereotyping people based on race, religion, social class or nationality, etc. As far as I'm concerned anyone should be able to try to be a stand up comedian. Whether or no he or she makes it depends on talent and appeal.

    I understand what you're trying to make us see. I feel uncomfortable with some female comedians too but I have seen one or two who were simply great. They are french so I guess you won't know them.

    I think that men are better comedians too.

    It's alright for them to be crude but I am not very find of female comedians. Like the ones on the stage making jokes. The ones on the movies are fine. I am obviously a female but I just don't find humor in their jokes the way I do male's. even if it is the same joke

    While I don't think females should have to be attractive, "lady like" or whatever the hell your saying there, I typically don't find too many female comedians funny either. But some people do, I'm sure, so I don't think we should get rid of them. I just don't watch them.
