Is it normal i don't know who nelson mandela is?

One thing I respect about Nelson Mandela is his ability to forgive and move on. I honestly couldn't comprehend how a man could forgive the people who imposed so much pain on him.

Kudos to him no doubt. RIP Nelson Mandela.

Someone on my facebook bitched about Paul Walker vs Nelson Mandela and admitted not knowing who Mandela was either and also saying Walker was probably high....but he was a passenger. So you're not that ignorant at least.

I'm not very surprised. In my country everyone know who Mandela is because he represents so much here. What you have to know about him is that he is a great man who succeeded in bringing democracy in a country without causing a civil war. He represents a lot for African.

He was a terrorist and mass-murderer who became president of South Africa after serving 27 years in prison.
He was the first president since South Africa became a fully democratic republic with the end of Apartheid in 1994.
He changed South Africa from a segregated racist first-world country to an integrated racist third-world country.
And it went all downhill form there.

I'd know - I lived there.

The only thing you ever hear about on the news is what he did after his release, not all the crimes leading up to it;
The mainstream media sweeps all the negatives under the rug because of his status as an international icon.

Its normal to not know who someone is, of course. Just because someone was really important and inspirational doesn't mean everyone will know who that is. Anyone who would flip out on you for not knowing is just being silly, if you don't know then you don't know and it doesn't mean you're being some negative person, you just don't know. I know that was a lot of "know" but you know what I'm saying, you know?

I didn't know who Paul Walker was.Is it racist that I thought Mandela was Morgan Freeman?

Honestly hes not THAT well known. i heard about him before but. not that detailed.

You really should find out. We are living in the age of information and a simple google search could enlighten you.

He was the former south African president elected after he fought against the apartheid... The apartheid are a group of people who think that god wants black people to suffer infinitely for white people's mistakes.

From the little that I know of the subject, it seems as if no one else knows who he was either. Who he REALLY was, I mean.

Real ignorant story to share:

Someone on my Facebook page debated about whether or not the Boston bombers were really the real bombers. Because he said that there were others with backpacks and that the police just picked some random guys with backpacks and accused them. I guess he forgot the part about them throwing bombs at the police.
