Is it normal i don't believe in the word 'slut'?

In general, I think slut is a very offensive, sexist word. It's only used for women. I have never heard the word directed at a man.
In society, it's acceptable for a man to sleep around with whoever they like, when they like. They can sleep with 50 people and no one will blink. If a woman sleeps with just 10 people, she is extremely hounded. I don't understand why. It's 2013, we should know better. Women like and think about sex just as much as men do. There isn't really any difference between men and women at all. So when it comes to sex, why are women treated so badly?
The majority of people I know are really open and accept sexual women. But when it comes to Is It Normal, it's like women who have slept with more than three men are abused. I can't even count how many times I have been threatened and called disgusting names on here when I have revealed my sexual past anonymously. I have been a member for over a year, when I'm not anon, I am respected and liked. When I post things, I am abused, my self esteem ripped apart and angered, because I can't understand why everyone on this site hates women who like safe, consenting sex.
I have had a good year and a half on Is It Normal but decided this is my last post. I can't cope with the abuse anymore and people still thinking the year is 1950. Why aren't women allowed to be liberalised and admit they are sexual beings on this site without being threatened and abused?
I hope this post creates some thought and reconsideration over posting nasty comments to someone who you don't know and never will. Hopefully people should be more open minded and even if you don't particularly like it or agree with the way some people live with their lives, there's no need to tell them they should die because they are a worthless slut.
Overall, is it normal I don't believe in the word slut? Because I believe you should have as many or little sexual partners as you like, and no one should threaten you with death even when it's none of their business and your sexual life does not affect them in any way possible.

It's not true that men aren't vilified for celebrating their own promiscuity. We are labelled pervs and pigs all the time.

    "It's only used for women."

Not only, but man whore is generally the equivalent for males.

"In society, it's acceptable for a man to sleep around with whoever they like, when they like. They can sleep with 50 people and no one will blink."

In certain circles, yes but not in society as a whole. When people catch the whole public eye, (politicians, celebrities, and the like) they are nearly exclusively expected to at least hold to a portrayal of monogamy.

"Women like and think about sex just as much as men do. There isn't really any difference between men and women at all."

You lost me. I'm completely for social justice and treating men and women the same in most areas, but this is a special case. Men and women are quite obviously different on a biological level in some fundamental ways, and not just in our parts. Men produce sperm at an absolutely stupid rate for what is actually required, which causes a bit of a hormonal nightmare in a lot of men, resulting in increased sex drive and other behavioral changes. Women have issues in this area as well of course, just not the same ones.

Before it comes up, there are many exceptions to this. It is only a trend that men are more sexually desiring than women.

Now that that's out of the way, I really don't get the same feeling you do here with promiscuity in women. I try to be as accepting of people as possible no matter the sexual situation, but sometimes how I was raised gets in the way.

Blunt point of honesty. I don't really go into many of the threads involving sex and its related areas simply because I come here for the people and entertainment, and those stories have been done enough that they just don't provoke me enough to get a response anymore. On the other hand, for people with sex as a taboo, especially women having sex, they will respond to every single one of the stories because it still evokes that reaction that makes a person want to comment.

You will always have those that yell at you for upsetting their picture of the world, but it's your life so just fuck'em (if you want to).

    My two cents.

You can't really justify like that. It doesn't matter if it is 2013 or 2030, slut will be slut...

Would you want your daughter to have sex with 50 men? I doubt so..

And who said it's okay for men to have sex with many women.. It's not like that everywhere in the world.

You have a different experience of IIN to what I have.

I usually see any display of sexual open-mindedness from women received pretty positively, as long as it's not portrayed in an egotistical way (like 'I'm incredibly attractive, that's why I can fuck any guy I want').

I rarely see women who have slept with multiple partners disparaged. Promiscuity in both sexes is generally accepted these days in many Western cultures, to a certain degree. I think the internet is actually ahead of the pack compared to many communities, since it often attracts a modern and perhaps more open minded audience.

If you wouldn't mind mentioning a couple of posts you've experienced this negative behaviour in? I'm curious to see it for myself :/

I think most who abuse you for your liberal sexuality are just jealous because I bet 90% of the losers on this site couldn't get laid in a whore house, male or female.
It's true that the human male is hardwired to spread his seed with anyone that will let him in and that most women prefer a monogamous relationship.
However, sex, like anything else is not a natural talent; the more you do it the better at it you become. So for my preference I'd much rather an experienced "slut" than a virgin, any day for my wife or girlfriend.
It may also intimidate men when they think a woman might have more experience than they have and that they might not perform up to the expectation of an experienced woman.
Last, how can you let these losers on the internet get to you so much. Read their posts; half of them are illiterate; half are just prejudiced skinheads and the rest are just on here because this is the new Jerry Springer show; "I'll feel better about myself if I read how fucked up others are".
Don't leave, just keep this site in perspective and every once in a great while, you might gather a tiny bit of useful and helpful information. The rest of the time, shrug it off and consider the source.

"The majority of people I know are really open and accept sexual women. But when it comes to Is It Normal, it's like women who have slept with more than three men are abused." - many IINers are teenagers, many of the guys are still virgins.

Oh that's real bad. You know once here I posted a story about a basty thing I did and no one believed and I received only insults. I know what you mean but you also realise that there are many young people here who have not yet known life.

    • That's true. When I first signed up to IIN, if I posted something controversial then the majority of the comments were open minded and accepting that we all do bad things every now and again, because we're human.
But now this site has gone to the dogs. It's been overrun by extremely nasty, opinionated, young people who have yet to experience a lot of things in life. I don't think you can have such a strong opinion on something until you have experienced it yourself, nevermind sending out death threats and insults.
Just another reason why the age restrictions on this site should be respected. I know a few members who signed below the age of 18 (now 18), but they still acted respectful and maturely. It would be great if the rest of them were the same.

First of all, I agree that women are too often called a slut. Nobody should be put down for their choices.

Secondly, as a young man, if I chose to, I could take the post offensively. I could be disgusted by how you generalized young men that way without them having to prove themself to you, and to what you said about how men can sleep around however much they like without insult, women like you insult them. Like I said I could be offended, but its the internet so I won't take it seriously. I suggest you do the same.

        • But men can sleep with whoever they like without insult. Maybe we are from two different cultures/countries but I promise you where I am from, I have NEVER heard anyone insult a man about his sex life.
Afterall, least they're not death threats either.

I think what jfredesturg is saying is that men get called pigs, usually by women, because they sleep around a lot. I've actually heard some woman describe men as this just because they like having sex. Men get ridiculed too, just look at GoraIntoDesiGals comment, he is right.

However, not to derail from your experience and point, I believe that we should all just stop caring about each others sex lives and stop calling each other names.

Men have their own derogatory labels, like pervert or player. We need the word slut to describe women who are sexually promiscuous, because what else would we call them? We might as well get rid of the word "perv," too, since it is also offensive.

    See where I'm going here?

I don't really see slut shaming a lot on this site. Usually I see the opposite, people generally will accept you and preach that sex is ok, regardless of gender. Sure some people think differently but its purely for health concerns, STD's and what not, but even then I don't see them very often. I'm sorry that you haven't had the same experience, but I do agree with you that slut shaming is ridiculous. Honestly just do whatever you want and screw what people think. I know that may not sound helpful but it's the only think I can really think to say. Seriously though I am sorry that you've been treated harshly on here, you deserve better.

i always hated slut shaming, but sometimes even though i'm a male feminist,i can see why they say it about some girls who act slutty too. it mainly only should be used if the girl is advertising or bragging about whoring around because its a bad example to kids.

I don't use the word slut. If someone, man or woman, spreads the "love" around a lot, I call him or her a whore.

My view on it is that, generally speaking, women prefer experienced men, whereas men don't really like to go down the road which was used by 100 men before them. That is the main difference.

The result of it is that a promiscuous man is in great demand among women, for he is experienced. A promiscuous woman, on the other hand, will not find many "acceptors".

It is all about supply and demand. The supply(=acceptance) of "man-whores" is only as big as the demand for them on the female market. And vice versa with women: the supply(=acceptance) of "sluts" is only as big as the demand for them on the men market.

It may sound a little harsh, but you can't shame men into liking sluts.

Sex is so much better when you care for the one you are sex.

    • Yes it is okay to have sex with someone when no feelings are shared. I don't see why not.
But yes, sex is a lot better when you both share love.
We just can't deny that in todays society people have casual sex and as long as it's safe and consenting, I don't see what's wrong or how it is anyone elses business.
