Is it normal i do not understand why people get jealous?

A lot of people I know have relationships where they get jealous when their partner is around the opposite sex.
I have never understood this. I think, if your partner is going to cheat on you, then it's over. Why do people get into relationships wanting to change someone?
There's no reason to be in a relationship with someone who you don't trust.

    They want to feel special, you meet someone that you want to share your life with and care for...it feels so good that the idea of losing it hurts so bad...and if you do lose it...it's more grey and cold and violent than the most powerful storm and when the storm settles everything is gone and your left alone cradling an empty bottle as everything fades to black.

      I feel similarly to the OP's post; I find jealousy difficult to comprehend because it's not a feeling I'm very familiar with.

    If I had a significant other I would have to say that whether or not I got jealous would depend on how he behaved around other women. It has taken me a long time to learn this but one has to accept or reject people for what they are and not try to change them.

    I don't understand it, either. I may not understand why my bf has any interest in me whatsoever, but I don't worry about if he's doing anything behind my back, and I don't feel jealous if he interacts with other girls, because I trust him. Just because.

    Jealousy can come from different places. A person may be jealous because of a past experience or because their partner has done something to make them jealous. It's not always about wanting to change someone.
