Is it normal i consider this a waste of my time?

I consider debating racism with racists a lost cause. I don't want to waste my time and energy trying to point out the flaws in their logic because typically they are so absurdly fanatical about their opinions they would never be open to understanding a different mindset than their own. Not to mention I believe it is rude to assert my own opinions on someone else whom I know has different beliefs, disregarding the reality that racists would rarely show others the same courtesy.

Ahh, I don't know. Current mores and morality condemn racists, but I've never been of the mind that we should condemn people because it's the fashion to do so. We should only do it because there's a good reason to, and not because "racist" is the new black.

See what I did there? ;)

I have had some good debate with muslims and hindus on religion. The fact that we (I am christian) believe in god makes us have some sort of respect for each others faith.

Rarely are you going to find that debating someone online or even in real life, about issues that you are on two completely different ends of the spectrum on, rarely works in regards to changing their minds. Chances are, if they can throw these kind of arguments out there and have no trouble with it, then they are very set in their ways and have no intention of changing, especially when the person speaking to them is speaking as the "high and mighty, enlightened authority of knowledge". Even if you're not trying to look that way, that's often how people that do these debates look to each other. They know you're looking down on them. That makes them all the more angry.

As far as the issue of racism goes, I have heard some surprisingly good, well thought out and logical arguments from some very intelligent people. That goes for most issues, those. If you really believe in something, rationalizing it and making it something that is intelligent and justifiable to believe is cake. It's difficult to dismiss some of their more intelligent arguments but I still don't believe in racism's cause nor do I believe that our species could "evolve" as greatly as they say Anglos evolved from ... black people? in 50,000 years. Evolutionarily speaking, that is damned near and just about a blink of an eye when you're talking about the huge amount of time it takes to develop significantly new and different qualities in any given species of most animals.

TL;DR, you're right. It's annoying as hell to see people forcing their opinions on others and being total dicks about it. I don't care who you are, there's really no reason to shit on someone for believing something that you don't see as proper. I see it all of the time from people of all beliefs. Grow the fuck up.

Racists are usually rather thick, and it is difficult to have any kind of discussion with someone of such low intelligence.

Sorry if this sounds facile or over simplistic, but this is how I have always found it to be the case.

It is a waste of time... People think it only applies to certain groups when it applies equally to all. Race baiters have made careers out of fanning the flames.

    • Good point. Could you explain how you see race-baiting happening here on IIN and what the goal is behind it?

Is it bringing liberal people together by forming a sense of solidarity from fighting together against a mutual foe? Or is it more beneficial used by the antagonizer as a weapon to create doubt in the minds of people about their liberal leanings?

I don't see race baiting on this site. I'm talking about the USA specifically. You can't judge people on their merits apparently. You just get accused of racism. Liberal news folks play the race card any chance they get. It's their way to try to silence even legitimate dissent.

The latest is... You're racist if you want to own a gun. How ridiculous! And my favorite, you're racist if you disagree with white house policies that are harming the country...Everyone who disagrees with the policies have to be racist, it couldn't possibly be about the issues.

Yup I agree. If you are dealing with an insane racist nothing you can do to change their mind.
