Its not complicated and I see it every day. I feel like I should remember it but I cant. I remember my passwords to my profile and all my usernames online. I can remember that but I cant remember numbers. I actually cant remember phone number very well either.
Look up mnemonic devices using the google. My personal favorite is the method of loci, or memory palace. Mnemonic devices take advantage of the brain's behavior to remember things that would otherwise be very difficult. You can't remember your PIN, but I'll bet you can describe your home in intricate detail. The memory palace associates arbitrary information with (fictional) physical details.
I remember my credit card number using a series of neon pipes arranged in the bar downstairs, tucked between the doors to the concert hall and the missile silo (memory architecture, incidentally, does not suffer from the limitations imposed by real-life physics).

The same thing happened to me today, I thought I had it, next thing I know I've locked it, have to wait for a new card :(
Yeah, the same thing happens to me if I've not used my card for a long time (like over Christmas, when I stayed with my parents who were happy to buy everything I could have needed). Luckily, because my parents are trustworthy I told them my PIN and now I can call them sheepishly if I forget it myself.
