Is it normal i can't watch shows like dr. phil?

I used to be able to watch Dr. Phil but now I literally can't stand it. not only do I think he's a TV whore, I feel weird watching other people's problems. I feel like I'm intruding on a private family moment when he has a messed up couple and their neglected kids crying hysterically on his stage, for example. I'm not sure who in their right mind would allow their family crisis to be showcased in such a way but regardless, I can't watch it. Is this normal? my mom loves dr. Phil and doesn't understand how I don't.

While I agree with you, I don't think it's all bad. Part of the intent is to prompt others to examine their own lives and problems from a different perspective. Those problems being showcased are not exactly uncommon.

I remember my Mom telling me one day whilst driving me somewhere that she saw a Dr. Phil episode about divorce and how terrible it is to use your children as pawns (which was what she did to me). I could tell, from the way that she spoke of it, that the episode really made her think about some of her past actions in a way that she'd never thought of them before and progressively, she has improved. Whether or not that episode prompted it, I can't say, but it made her think and that is worth something.

So do I disagree with you? No. It does make some people think, though, and I think that is worth noting.

He shoves his opinions down the throat of his guests. I feel like he is way too judgmental and emotional. Sometimes it takes a cool, relaxed mindset to help others... not yelling in their face until they cry.

I'm the same way. I used to enjoy watching Dr. Phil because his earlier shows focused more on mental illnesses, which I find fascinating. Now the shows are mostly about relationship and family drama, and I get really bored with them really fast.

I hate Jerry Springer/Maury/etc. I don't hate the people on the show, I hate the people who watch it.

Actually, I don't *hate* the people who watch those shows, but I'm disgusted by it.
