Is it normal i can't motivate myself?

I'm a first year student at uni. it has always been a big problem for me to sit down and do my homework, I remember at primary school I spent ages doing it because I kept getting distracted.
At secondary school it meant I spent much longer doing homework than most, and when it was exam time I never did much revision. It isn't that I didn't care, I always really wanted to get my homework in for the deadline even if I had to stay up late to do it. Which is often what happened and happens now since I leave the work to midnight when I need it in that day.
Now, I've got my first exams at uni in a few weeks and haven't done *anything* to prepare. I mostly got away with not much revision at school because I'm smart but I'm worried I'll do badly now just because I can't motivate myself to do any work.

    I can't stand revision.
I always only did the first exercise in a section and left the rest blank.
After I'm capable of doing one, why should I waste my time doing more of the same?...
My books were all empty like a big "fuck you" to the teacher / publisher.

(And I was one of the top students in the school. My friends were all jealous as they worked much harder than me, but didn't do as well.)

So my advice is to not waste your time on pointless crap. Only do what is necessary for you to know what you're doing. No more, no less.

If you can't do it what do you expect us to do about it?

I'll be honest and tell you that I am not sure if any of my words will motivate you I am just lending a sympathetic ear and tell you that I get what you mean. I'm in my 2nd year and I still suffer from lack of motivation. I have tried to motivate myself in many ways. To just do it. For me, it rings true that if I am not the least bit interested in the task then I will absolutely make up any excuse to procrastinate. What really got to me and is still getting to me is the outcome of my actions. I failed a couple of my subjects because I gave in to weakness and sometimes laziness.

    One word of advice: Discipline.

Discipline yourself and train yourself to force work. You have been used to not doing tasks early and it's catching up to you. Think about the resulting outcome of not putting enough effort into your studies plus the amount of money wasted on your education without actually being present.

Don't let yourself get to the point where you'll say: Wow, I really f* it up. Good luck!

Just do it. Listen to some kick-ass music to get you pumped up. And think of it as working out. Don't give up. GO!

Even though you say you're smart I think you still doubt yourself enough that, that alone won't be enough. So why don't you really be smart and study just a bit. Get something it, see it as a way of increasing knowledge.

Here's a trick; use a reward system. Basically for lets say every full page of notes or so, you get to do one thing you like, whether its a few minutes of 9gag, or a bit of video games or a bit of t.v. Whatever suits you. Just TRY it.

The reason I believe your motivation will not be enough is mainly due to past experience.

If you don't think you can change and be different, you're fooling yourself. Lots of kids have the same problem you do, me in particular, and I've seen plenty of people get their act together at Uni or College. You're being to easy on yourself.
