Is it normal i can see ads on is it normal when signed in?

So just in the last few days, I've noticed that there are small, fairly unobtrusive, ads on is it normal - inbetween the stories/polls and the comments.

Has anyone else noticed this?

And does this increased income for the site mean that the mods will actually do their job and start...you know...modding properly?

    Whoops, that was a mistake. Unfortunately these new ads are only bringing in like $2 a day so far. Not enough to make a difference and help me hire more mods :(

    I'll remove them now for signed in members.

      Hypothetically... if that sort if non-invasive advertising was displayed to signed-in users, and you made enough extra money that way to keep making improvements to the site, I would say the end justifies the means.

        That's what I thought. It was a tiny, text only, unobtrusive ad. I don't know about everyone else, but I don't have a problem with it if it means improvements to the site.

          The traffic by signed-out users is much higher than signed in, so it won't make much of a difference. No point in annoying members.

      I didn't expect this to get through. I wasn't exactly wording it as politely as I could have. I don't actually think those teeny tiny ads were a bad thing...if it meant that moderation was a bit more uniform - surely it only costs you more in time and money to have to sift through complaints that come in rather than the mods being on the same page from get go? One week, stories got through multiple times - carbon copies of each other. It's just hard to believe the site is being taken seriously (troll posts aside).

      Are you unable to find good volunteer mods? I would have thought there'd be quite a few people willing?

      do you allow volunteer mods?

      and i dont get ads cause i have firefox + adblock.. although there used to be talking/noise ads that were scary when i used ie here but that was a couple yrs ago i think
