Is it normal i believe this is how birth control works?

I have no idea how these type of drugs works I just heard about the side effects. Many women when on them often will gain weight but can not get pregnant. Now when you start preparing for a child you can not get pregnant again before finishing your first pregnancy. I had a theory that birth control tricks the body into thinking it is pregnant. So it releases hormones that make you gain weight for the child. I am male if that is important.

Have you ever thought about doing a little research and learning how birth control pills ACTUALLY work instead of, you know, just making shit up in your head?

No, not really. The weight gain thing is due to women being very sensitive to hormone changes regarding their metabolism and such. When men lose testosterone, they also have reported to gain weight slowly and lose muscle tone. Think of women's hormones as OUR "testosterone".

That whole weight gain thing is an excuse some of them make in order not to take the pill, because they are uncomfortable with their boyfriends not wearing condoms because they do not fully trust they will not cheat on them. Not every relationship is up for that kind of commitment, it's understandable.

There are different types of birth control that work in different ways, though. Only some of them work anything like "tricking" the body into "thinking" it's pregnant, and even for those, that's an oversimplification.

I believe that is what I heard regarding how IUDs work. If there is already something in the uterus (the IUD) then the body will assume it is a pregnancy and not allow implantation.

What you heard is incorrect, but it did give me a good excuse to brush up on my knowledge of IUDs. :D

Non-hormonal IUDs are made with copper, which increases the level of copper ions in the uterus, which acts as spermicide. It also increases white blood cells in uterine fluids.

Hormonal IUDs also make the uterus less hospitable for sperm, but they also cause the cervical mucus to thicken and suppress endometrium. Since endometrium is essential to pregnancy, it's really not putting your body in a state like pregnancy at all.

I went and read up on it a while ago. I am actually getting one in two weeks. It doesn't allow fertilization period whereas regular birth control just doesn't allow implantation. I was just telling you what I heard in a sex-ed class XD I still hardly understand it (what I heard in relation to what a read).

Sex Ed in the bible belt is probably why my school had the highest teen pregnancy rate in the county...

It does actually do that. Most people know this though.

nope...the body cannot gain weight on its own the only way for one to gain weight is through food and muscle gain!

@ neuroneptunian....by continually breast feeding the women is keeping high levels of prolactin and progesterone which is what birth control is...howevr they are not having their breast massage and suckled and having the lymphatic fluid drained like real breast feeding....so this fluid builds up ...and stores toxins...causing breast cancer

@ VioletTrees...that is totally how breasts work...I really feel sorry for your breast...just google breast massage and breast cancer or breast feeding and breast cancer, etc...it has been overwhelmimgly proven that women who breast feed and regularly massage and have breast suckled have lower rates of cancer....where are high rates of breast cancer...in the us and other western socities that no longer breast feed and bottle feed...in third world like africa amd asia ...they dont wear any pink ribbons because they use their breast for what they were designed for ...to breast feed infants and to suckle, carress and massage them..this reduces the build-up of lymphatic fluid...breast feeding produces feel good chemicals for both mommy amd baby that bonds them together throughout the rest of their lives...breast fed infants are healthir, stronger, smarter, and breast feeding reduces post partum depression in mothers..Save the Tatas

I think they trick the womans body into thinking .."I just had a baby and i am still nursing it" ...i thought women can not get pregnant while they are nursing...also these drugs probably play a role in causing breast cancer , because they make the womens breast more sensitive to estrogens as well...and this overly sensitive lymphatic tissue will store toxins more readily...women need to let their partner massage and suckle their breasts to help them prevent cancer while they are on these medicines as it will break up any stored toxins as will breast feeding

I can't even… that's not… No. That's not how breasts work. That's not at all how bodies work.

Look, I want to explain why that's not how this works, but my ability to communicate has been temporarily by how astonishingly far that description is from anything even remotely medically plausible.

Women can get pregnant while breastfeeding if they do not breastfeed every four hours during the day and every six hours at night. It is far from a perfect method of contraception and I have known women to be surprised by a pregnancy while breastfeeding, usually women who do not know how to use this method the "correct" way.

      http://www.plannedparenthood.org/health-topics/birth-control/breastfeeding-4219.htm

This isn't so much for you as it is any woman that might be reading this and considering this as a serious form of birth control after birth. It works, but not unless you do it CORRECTLY.
