Is it normal i am always surprised when someone uses my name?

I do not speak for on the internet or on any website but in person I realized no one ever actually use peoples name. In fact you can go for a whole conversation with out mentioning anyone name. So when someone refers to another by name it always astonishes me. Once again I will say I mean in person not over the computer.

I'm actually the opposite way. I use people's name a lot when I'm having a conversation with them. Specially if it's an argument or an important discussion. It's something I got from my mom. But I think it's normal for people to not use other's name while talking.

I don't say peoples names much at all. Partially because everyone calls me by the short version of my name and I hate it. I've asked them not to. They don't listen. So fuck you I will not say your name at all.

Yeah it surprises me. After they say my name, I think to myself, "You know my name?"

I usually make it a point to say someones name at some point in a conversation. It gives it a more personal feel to it. If we're in a group, I just like to make it known who I was really talking to. I noticed not many people do use someones name and I don't like it too much. I hardly ever hear my name said in conversation but once in awhile a customer throws it in when telling me to have a good day or just saying thank you for helping them out. It always stuns me for a second and I think, "How did they know my name?", then I realize it's on my nametag and it all makes me smile then thank them back and we both go on our merry way.

    • I am usually stunned and some how it makes me smile. I hardly ever hear my name so it makes me tend to enjoy that person more for saying my name. This is more common on the internet but hardly ever happens in real life that why I said not on the internet.

I think it makes you feel better in real life because it doesn't happen often. I'm the same way.

        • It was strange because I met a lady once and my name was only said once.

I had no idea anyone was really paying attention but whenever she saw me after she would say "Good bye have a nice day(name)".

This stunned me and she hardly even new me.

I must admit, I'm not good at remembering names unless I'm told more than once. I try my hardest to retain it, though.

I think it's sweet that she remembered. She must be very friendly.

            • I am the same. I often tell people that and most people do not care if you forget their name. However some people are total prudes about it when you do. Which I just find petty.

  • I always cringe when people use my name too often, especially if it's a salesman. It's like they're trying to create this sense of "buddy buddy" with me.

It's insulting that they think I'm so stupid that simply saying my name is going to fool me into thinking they're my friend.

I'm the exact same, I sometimes even go as far as to say to the person please don't say my name because it freaks me out that you said it.

What i hate is when someone in customer service or at the bank or something like that calls me by my first name like we're best friends.

Not only overly familiar, but unprofessional.
