Is it normal house and dance music make me feel sad?

I don't exactly understand... When I'm in a place among tens of people dancing on a house song, and jumping, and doing such stupid movements, I feel like I'm the only one that can't have fun. Like I were the only one that realizes the foolishness of life. I can't really understand how people can forget everything and enjoy that shitty "music". It seems like a forced fun to me, like if everyone were forced to dance and forget every single fucking problem. Shame on me.

it's not shitty. i live for house music but i know what you mean. i think of it as my music, only i am allowed to enjoy it. in the privacy of my own home. i just think that people dont have the same amount of respect for it therefore dont deserve to listen to it

It's one thing not to enjoy EDM, not everyone has to like the same thing, but it's another thing for it to make you contemplate the "foolishness of life" and to dismiss the people who like it by calling it "forced fun". I think it's normal for dancing to make you feel very awkward, it does that for a lot of people, but I think your reaction to it is going further than that. Feelings of depression and hopelessness are very normal, but I don't think it's normal for them to be brought on by a single activity of type of music that is innocuous to most people.

I think most people have something that helps them forget life's problems, if not blocking them out completely then at least a little bit. If that thing isn't dancing for you, then that's fine. Find something else that can help you, even if it isn't something the people around you like. Maybe it's something you do alone like video games or reading or writing or exercise, or maybe it's something social like sport or charity work or meeting friends or other types of music. There's got to be something that's fun for you, it doesn't matter if that is dancing or not.

    • You're right. But I can't avoid that feeling. I know some people really like that music, but I think many of them just... behave as others do, without wills, and thoughts, and stuff. I see cool boys with NY hat, and I think of them like they were in other time, like 70's or 80's, and I think they would have acted the same way. I mean, they don't really like things, they like them because everyone does, and maybe this makes them really like those things, I don't know. Maybe liking is right this. But, what if many people suddenly stopped liking that music? Everyone would probably stop liking it too. I don't know if that's just human nature, like if behaving like others was necessary to survival. Anyway, this hypothesis would only make me think more about the foolishness of man. Like they think to be original, when they are not at all, because they are only acting as their fucking brain tell 'em to do. I don't know if I explained, it's night here, I need a sleep.

I honestly don't worry about why people like the things they like. There could be a whole host of reasons. Lots of people like the things they like because someone introduced them to it or because there is a large community associated with it, but I don't think that makes them less original as a human being because people are more than the summation of the things they like. People are their personalities, whereas the things they like are mostly superficial because they're affected by random events like the time they grew up in and the people they know - the things you like don't necessarily tell you anything about your personality because personality is only one factor in what you like.

Some more things to think about:
Exactly why is it foolish to allow yourself to be part of a crowd? Exactly why is it foolish to act on instinct sometimes?

        • Perhaps it's not foolish to take part in a crowd; perhaps it's not foolish to act on instinct. The fact is that sometimes I feel that people just don't think by themselves, but just follow the trend, and I cannot repress this thought. I may be wrong, but that's my sensation.
