Is it normal he calls me a "cunt" jokingly?

My boyfriend thinks it is funny to call me a "cunt" or a "bitch"... but "jokingly. Is this a sign of disrespect or is he really "just joking?" The other day he got mad at a coworker and said "She's just a cunt." Then he began talking the same way to me. He also called me a bitch. He laughs when he says it. Is this a "joke" or is this emotional abuse?

That is so disrespectful. I would never call the person I love such a vile & disgusting name.
    It's emotionally abusive.

Now where's that CuntiestDouche bitch at?

Tell him it makes you uncomfortable and ask him to stop. If he cares about you, he should stop immediately and never do it again.

If he is an emotional abuser, then he simply wont stop. However there are two things you need to watch out for:

    1. "Babe, I'm just joking. You can't take a joke? I didn't know you were so sensitive." This is one of the famous lines many abusers use to make you feel guilty, stupid, and sad for the horrible shit they do to you. Don't fall for it.

    2. When it happens again. Another famous thing a lot of abusers do is they will stop their crap for a short time (between a few hours to a few weeks, give or take). During this down time, they treat you amazingly well (almost like how he did when you two first met or started dating). All your problems are solved!? Nope. Once the abuser feels they apologized enough, they go right back into calling you names (and more) and it's worse than before.

Save yourself a lot of time and end the relationship as soon as 1 or 2 happens, because he's not going to change no matter how much love you feed him. Good luck.

No that shows a total lack of disrespect for you.

Dump him and find someone who treats you with the respect you deserve

Some people don't know how to joke or kid someone. Some people can say anything and get by with it. Regardless, if you are the least bit offended by it tell him. Lots of people hide their real feelings behind humor. Clip it now! Also, some males are so insecure they feed their ego through condescension. Go ballistic on him if you tell him and he continues.

I would be offended if the person I was dating referred to me as a "bitch" or "cunt". That's probably the point I would leave, whether he was joking or not.

easy sorted. Every time you talk about him / to him, refer to him as prick, dickboy, wanker, pindick etc. If he is indignant, laugh and tell him you are only joking. If he doesn't cop on quicksmart then he's too stoopid to bother staying with.

yes, sometimes it does. The poster should not have to ask her boyfriend to stop referring to her in this way, it will most likely not work, as he will feel more so in authority as if he is doing his gf a favour by stopping.
In fact the poster should dump his ass immediately, but maybe she feels he deserves a chance to correct his actions. But he needs to see a positively robust reaction from his girlfriend, which should give him a view of the lay of the land in the future, knowing he will not get away with that shit so easy.
Anyway, women are feckin experts at passive aggressive! And its effective!

You shouldn't have allowed him to say it to you the first time to begin with. You should've clipped his wings then and there. You made him "get away" with it and now he feels like it's okay to belittle you
