Is it normal goth styles remind me of harry potter ?

Is it me or do all these styles of Goth , emo ,scene so on ,kind of have a English tone to them? I mean every time I see one I tend to get that vibe from it. I am not trying to sound racist but does Goth not have a hint of British culture to it? I like both Britain and the Goths but I kind of think there is some hint of England to them. Please do not be upset with me for saying this its just a Observation.

Well the goth subculture did first start in England.

The true fashion sense of Harry Potter's world was not "goth".
Even the film style wasn't goth.
There's no connection between the two.

    • I am not saying it was goth. I said goths have simalar characteristic to brittish styles and cloth. Im comparing goths to have things in common with harry potter not the other way around.

The title was misleading. Explain how it reminds you of Harry Potter specifically? I'm interested. :)

    • There is many other things but mainly the stripes. I have seen a lot of Goths and potter seems to have a thing for stripes too. there is that thing with the striped sleeves and the scarves and sweaters.

It seems more Scandinavian to me. I don't see anywhere near as many Goths as I used to in Britain (which is a shame). And Goth culture has died. It's become a fashion rather than a way of life. It also seems to have become about BDSM. It didn't used to be about anything like it. It was more dark, cool, sensitive hippy. Most Goths were veggies and plenty were animal activists. I miss those kind of people.

    • Most of the people I know that are Goth are like that they do not do it for fashion and they are not expressing S&M I never got into it but I was invited to join them at one point. I have been asked to become Goth which was a huge honor but I don’t know I guess I was to lazy to do all the maintenance and I am horrible at make up. By the way Dapple you are our favorite English man.

:O Do you speak on behalf of the Goth people? If so, tell them that this is the most flattered I think I have ever been. :D

  • You mean the actual goth tribe (as in Visigoths and Ostrogoths) or the sad kids?

Because the tribes were very savage and pretty much barbarian, like any other tribe in the area, so there's nothing english about that, unless you take the Saxons.

The sad kids -it's just a European vibe, they take Victortian art and aesthetics as an ideal. So I wouldn't say it has anything to do with the british isles, might as well be french or german.

Emo and scene has nothing to do with any of this anyway. I always liked emo/hardcore stuff. The subculture has its roots in D.C. and NY hardcore punk, so it's really not relevant to your topic.

Of course English people ARE from Great Britain, but you (as lots and lots of people do) seem to think England and Great Britain are the SAME thing. This is NOT the case. Besides England, Great Britain also contains Scotland and Wales. End of geography class.

Yes, there is more than one type of British, but you're the one who doesn't understand this.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure you're trolling, because I don't believe anyone could possibly be this dumb. Therefore, I will quit debating you. I won't comment again on this thread.

        • No I know apparently there is like 7 different kinds of Goths, I know they all have a different theme and I have noticed a correlation between most of the Goths I have seen and the British styles I have seen like in Harry potter. One most noticeable is stripes and Harry is suppose to be British and those are suppose to be there type of style. I base it on all of the Goths I have seen. How are they like warriors though? Also most Goths I know are not warriors most of them like art and writing and poetry and dislike PE. Goths are just ordinary people aren’t they?
