Is it normal 'goodbye posts'

The post about Valkeer leaving made me think of something. I think it's pretty cool that the people who run this site allow users to submit goodbye posts when other users leave. People form such good relationships and strong bonds here that it's only natural for others to be sad/disappointed when someone chooses to leave, especially if they have been here a long time and are well known. Even I have made a post lamenting a previous user's departure before.

Is it normal that I think the moderators are considerate for allowing such posts to go through?

In remembrance of the people who have made an impact before on here, who are some of your favorite past users of this site?

  I miss Allistalla almost as much as I miss flutterhigh. They shared a quality I appreciate very much, they were both very challenging users.

    I vowed never to enter the chat room, too distracting. I had celebrity status in another chat room several years ago and it was too much; I can't handle all the flirting and cyber romance that goes on. Also you tend to develop enemies and attain crushes. I like the impartiality my status as a nobody on this site gives me :D It means, for the most part, I don't vote, comment or thumb with prejudice.

Yeah, I think they're lovely. There are some users who haven't posted in a while, but who don't feel gone to me. Like Captain_Kegstand and TerryVie. Flutterhigh too, who I think was one of the best users on the site.

As for very old users, there were people who I didn't know well or speak to much, but who I liked a lot. Like randomjelly. And Dozis and joybird. There are lots of other users too, but I'm a bit too scattered to remember them right now. If they pop up in my head I'll come back and write them down.

I have mentioned TerryVie several times recently, actually. She was brilliant.

Too many to mention. Three people that came immediately to mind were MissSorel, randomjelly, and carolann. But there are loads of people who just walked away. MercedesBenz has been gone nearly two years now. He came back and posted while I was off the site so I never got to see it. I'd love to have said hello. AngAnders112 did the same and I missed her too. So did Cobrakitnu. Sometimes if there are no friendly faces here that people recognise, they lose any sense of attachment. Those three all came back and didn't hang around.

tt454 disappeared overnight. His account just closed. CountryRoads and wrekd got into an argument and both left IIN. And where are TyLee and Sweetz? Will joeaverage ever come back? LOUi_CUDi? Liiaaa3?

Chaosdragoon1 seemed all integrated here and then just walked out after just a few months. I don't see much of NoraBaker, Parrish, and JWeezee either. I spot them occasionally but I always think one day I may stop spotting them. Why did theabider leave and didn't I see her here in the Autumn, but only briefly? And what about Gems? Are lulzy and lula still around or are they definitely gone? And CillyMe? ShinyGlitterDoll? Will TerryVie come back? Will Joybird do a tori and slink in quietly?

Sometimes they come back. I though Shrunk had left but she's here again now. And people like SATC, Jessie735513, DefinitelyNotNormal88, Gena45, and bananaface herself who is the exception who came back and stayed. Then I think about people bullied off the site, people who didn't want to leave? I won't mention their names.

Where are chanso and (m)(d)(w)? I used to see those guys here nearly every day. And keggy, who may or may not return. And thisissomuchfun. And flutterhigh himself.

Is Boo! on sabbatical like FrankieStrange often is? And people who have left recently like our little Capy, like VioletTrees (and presumably OswaldCobblepot), like wigsplitz (although we left a fish hook in her leg and finally dragged her back).

This is just a chain of people coming to mind that I miss and more are coming all the time. There are hundreds of them. Sometimes it seems like more people have left IIN than have ever been here. I know that seems silly but only a proportion of us are here at once. When you've left, you join the list of everyone else who has left and will probably stay left. I wonder if any of them read. Or are here with new names. Hello you, if any of you are.

Frosties is still here, though, apparently. I'll track him down eventually.

  Forgot squirrelgirl, radar, georgienne, jellytot and gogodeuce. At one point gogodeuce was the person here who made me laugh the most. He had this really simple formula. If a story was about thinking people were looking at you, he'd write a story which always started "One time at band camp". They always involved spiking the fruit punch and him doing something relevant to the story, like playing all the wrong notes too loudly so everyone was looking at him (the nature of the OP's story).
  
  Another time someone posted about being afraid of shark attacks in the shower. So, at band camp (naturally) he'd got drunk off fruit punch and then bit his friend while his friend was in the shower (to pretend he was a shark). It probably doesn't sound that funny but it was such a perfectly formed joke each time. You know he was going to end up doing something pertinent to story he was replying to, you just didn't know how he was going to get from fruit punch to punchline. I'm tempted to search for band camp and see if I can track down every single one of them.

      Before posting the first one, I honestly thought to myself, "Is flutterhigh on the site right now?" because he'd have been literally Hitlering me before I'd even replied to myself with the second part.

  :/ I misses TerryVie... dangit dappled your post made me kinda sad! Why must so many good people leave :( I feel like I should start making more of an effort to get info outside of this site for the people I particularly enjoy talking to. I've gotten emails and numbers from a few people, but missed out on several who I may not see again now..

    It was sad putting her name on the post. I didn't at first because the last thing she said to me was that she was coming back. Then I weighed up the chances of her coming back and I liked her so much, I couldn't bear to leave her off the list. :/
    
    I'd hoped you had an email address or something. I don't have one either. She did confide some things which would make her more findable but I would never use them, and even less because she really valued her anonymity.
    
    Let's look on the bright side. She may still come back. Plenty of others have done. :)

      She did pop on to message me a few months back, she gave me reassurances that she would be coming back and that she was just taking a break, I just hope that proves true. I'm pretty sure I didn't get one though I'll go back through my messages just in case I'm derping in that regard.

Here's an idea: how about an RIP-list... No, that doesn't sound good... How about a Hall of Fame for all the users who left us? Or at least for the most active ones?

Because without it, I didn't even know that users like djpatties, Captain_Kegstand, TerryVie or radar have left us.

I miss many of the people already mentioned...and others, too.

djpatties, marisol, karmasAbich, SquirrelWhisperer. sharP is around now and then, as is -WhySoSerious-, but not often. Others that I feel bad I can't think of right this second.

I'm glad goodbye posts are allowed through moderation but I think it's a pity that the members who leave won't get to see the admiring comments & farewell wishes. Quite sad, actually.
