Is it normal go doctor without records or will they turn you down?

I want to see a doctor but cant get hold of my medical records. Would they still see me anyways or do they usually just turn people like this down?

  • Most people do not have their own med records. I'm probably one of the few people who request and keep them.

I thought your medical record was stored somewhere in a central medical database and any doctor can see in there. All they need is a computer and your name and date of birth and they got your medical record.

    • You have a little card the doctor asks for whenever you go to the doctor. Generally you need that when you go and they ask if you have it.

You will be seen without them.

Yeah, I move around a lot so I just mentally keep track of the little quirks in my health and bring it up to the doctor during the appointment.

        Did you ever go there?

      • Yes, that is one procedure they might do.

That's not the one Im afraid of. It's the endoscopy thing. With the tube in the throat, that bothers me.

  • A lot of people go to walk in clinics when they are sick. Doctors do not require you to have your medical records but they highly recommend that you do so that they can more easily assess your health by your past history. If you stick with one doctor from now on then you wont have to worry about this in the future. Unless you are one of those people that doctor shops just to get prescribed controlled substances.
