Is it normal get so sick of talking?
Today I was talking to my grandpa in the car while he was driving to lunch. He kept saying things like "Oh it's nice weather today." "It's going to get rainy next week." "That's an interesting name for a restaurant [that we passed]" "We're on road ___." "Your uncle told me ____." "That looks like a good restaurant there." It seemed like EVERYTHING we passed, he had to comment on. Silence wouldn't last more than 10 seconds. I really don't mean to be rude, but I just got sick and tired of talking. I was polite and responded to him, but eventually even laughing politely or saying "Yeah" or "Mhmm" was exhausting. All I wanted to do was turn on the radio and space out, not talk.
And it's not just my grandpa, it's everyone. Other people want to talk, but I don't. It's hard to make friends this way. I'd rather just BE with the person, like sitting with them or walking with them, than talking. Sometimes I really do like talking and talk quite a bit -- but only when I'm really interested in the topic.
I'd rather have interesting discussions with someone and otherwise be completely silent with them, than endless commentary and meaningless babbling.
TL;DR Having to listen and RESPOND politely to someone's constant small talk exhausts me.
