Is it normal for your lip piercing to cause your gums to recede?

I'm thinking about getting my bottom lip pierced on the left side and I've been reading that the stud can cause your gums to recede. For the people who have their lip done, did this happen to you and is it normal for that to happen?

Yes. I had it happen with mine. :/ I had to take it out because of it.

Yes, because it's pulling on the skin on the bottom down.

Definitely happens with mine. The gum around two teeth closest to my lip ring has receeded a lot. But that is probably more due to the fact that I like to press the ring inbetween my two teeth

Yes, it happens. It didn't happen with my lip one (it doesn't come in contact with my gum much at all) but it did happen with my tongue piercing. It fixed itself within a week or so after removing it though.

It just depends on how much contact the stud gets with the gum.
