Is it normal for your hands and feet to get uncomfortably hot?

Ever since I was a kid my hands and feet would overheat. My feet would usually overheat at night, even out of the covers, and I would have to pour icy water around them on the bed to get any sleep. My hands would mostly overheat during the day, and I would have to grip something cold like a metal bar or rub them on a cold wall.
In both cases there is no pain or swelling, only uncomfortable heat. Is this normal? Does it have a name?

It might be because you have too much salt in your diet or you are not drinking enough water.
