Is it normal for your boyfriend's mum to never speak to you

My boyfriend & I have been together for almost 14 months & I've met his mum a couple of times when she's given me a lift home from movies with him & stuff but she never says a word to me, she says hello & goodbye but that's it.
I thought she'd at least want to know some things about me and stuff like that.
I'm not sure if she likes me or not :/ is it normal for her to not talk to me??

    This is common, my mum isn't often nice to my girlfriends. Mothers are very protective of their sons and see a girlfriend as a kind of substitute mother that will take their son away. My god it's so common it's crazy. There are all kinds of studies and papers about it. It's not your fault, even if you're perfect she'll probably be a little snobby towards you.

      She probaly nervous that you and him are having kids. Or she probably hates you

    Well there could be many reasons why shedoes that. Maybe shes shy. Maybe she just doesnt really know what to say. I bet if you start a conversation with her she would respond. In some cultures the younger person is expected to talk first otherwise its seen as disrespectful or something. I would ask your boyfriend about whether his mom likes you because you really want her to like you. Try making small talk when you come over or see her anywhere, otherwise itll start to look like youre just avoiding her and thats not a good sign. Maybe she thinks that you dont like her because you wont talk to her! I think youre in a position where you have to make the first move :p

    Maybe she's shy!

    My husband's mother did the same to me when we first met. We were in her kitchen with another couple having coffee and she was all chat to the other couple but completely ignored me :o) I was proved right in my judgement of her, over the years, she is a rude and foolish narcissistic cretin who has no manners or breeding!

    More than 25 years later, it is my choice not to speak to her :o)

    Same thing with my boyfriend's dad and I, we started off on a very bad foot, the first 5 times we met either he was in a bad mood, or I was. Now he terrifies me so I just don't talk which is probably making his opinion of me worse. It's normal, but not good I suggest fixing it.
