Is it normal for your boss to try to "save" you at work

Today at work, I stated that the oil spill was very frightening. Our boss stated that since I was frighted, I was probably not "saved". She is a fundamentalist Baptist and I am an Episcopalian. I told her I had no doubts about my"salvation". She said we are in the last days and those that do believe certain things such as "The Rapture" and her interpretation of the Book of Revalation will go to Hell. I wanted to laugh in her face. And her certitutde was as amazing as it was stupid. She got her religious training in a little building next to Wal-mart. I studied under a Ph d who studied all over the world for four years at a very respectable college. But I'm going to Hell b/c my beliefs are different. What nerve! Has anyone else had this experience. I was a Baptist for 19 years and the whole faith was based on fear and condemnation .

  • Some religious people are like that especially if they aren't the same group, like you being episcopalian and her being fundamentalist baptist.

Just politely tell her that whilst you do respect her views, you simply do not share them.

And being frightened of something doesn't mean you're not "saved", it means you're human in my book.

Ohh you poor thing!! I totally understand. My Mother in Law wrote me an email saying I was going to go to hell if I didn't become Catholic. I'm a Methodist. My dad was raised Catholic & he told me not to worry about it!! Haha. There are Crazy people in this world!!!

On the one hand, your boss is not behaving appropriately and you might have a chat with your human resources department.

On the other hand, perhaps God is using your boss to try to work in your life.

  • Ppppfffttttttttt I'm Christian but holy man I would never put someone down like that. We are all equal and should be loved by one another no matter what the next person believes. I respect everyone for what they believe in , I respect you

  • In the words of George Carlin-
"We're praying to God to kill them, they're praying to God to kill us. Someone's gonna be f*cking disappointed!"
Religion is faith. You believe in god? Heaven? Then to you, it's real. Don't worry about others.

Ignore her. You have a right to be your own religion, and you won't go to Hell just because you don't agree with someone about religion.

  • Stupid religious crazies. Haha, but don't worry. You can laugh in her gave when the Rapture doesn't happen and all of the "chosen" followers are still here.
