Is it normal for you to use saliva to wet tissue for a bloody nose?

When I get nervous, sometimes i get bloody noses.
People have told me that you get bloddy noses from the weather being too dry and your blood vessels in your nose area pops. Since I was little, my mom has wetted tissue in the sink and handed it to me to stick up my nose... kind of like a plug.

Well, now that i'm older, sometimes instead of walking myself to the sink to wet the tissue, i put the tissue in my mouth, twist the tissue, and stick it up my nose.

Is this normal?

To stop bleeding you just want to stem the bloodflow until the blood clots and leave it alone. The most common effective method is to just pinch the nostrils together firmly and tilt the head forward until the bleeding stops. Another method I find useful is to stuff a wad of paper towel between the gum and upper lip and press firmly on it - this stems the bloodflow in the vessels that supply the nose.

Applying any kind of liquid (water, saliva) is just going to dilute the natural coagulants in your blood and slow down the clotting process. At the same time, the blood is soaking into the tissue and upon removal you are likely to disturb the blood clot and cause further bleeding.
