Is it normal for toddlers to rub her genitals n everything?

My daughter Is 28 months old and has been rubbing her genitals on everything she can. We are redirecting her and telling her she needs to sit on items appropriately. Any suggestions? Is this normal? Should we be worried?

My parents would beat me relentlessly for it, and scream at me "WHY DO YOU DO IT???" from the time I was 2 until I found out in sex ed that it was masturbation.

Don't do what they did, just teach her not to do it around people.

At that young of age, nah, don't be worried about it. My daughter sort of did the same thing at that age, and my wife and I wasn't worried. But if she continues later on in life, that's when you should start getting worried.

The fact that this is only 40 percent normal is everything which is wrong with this site and idiots with no experience giving their opinions on things. It is 100 percent normal. My mum is a nursery teacher and I have a bunch of younger cousins and all kids, all of them, go through a phase where they are obsessed with and can't stop touching their genitals. The worst thing you can do for this childs future development is make her feel bad or guilty about this.

It's normal yes but I didn't know they did it that young. They do it to relieve stress, why they relieve stress with their genitals, that im not sure about. When she gets old enough to understand let her know it's okay to do but it's something private she has to do when she's alone and not infront of other people.

Yes, normal. But like @NRD said if she continues I would be worried.

Just explain to her (when she's old enough to understand) that there's nothing wrong with it, but it's just bad manners to do it where other people can see her.

I may not be a father, but I do know that's wrong for a toddler to being doing that at such a young age. NOT NORMAL.
