Is it normal for the new girl to be a nutcase?

A new girl came to our school a couple weeks ago and yesterday she was showing everyone the cuts on her legs, arms, hands, and wrists. She even cuts herself in math class. She said that just woke up with cuts all over her but the cuts appeared to be perfectly straight lines made with a razor or sharp object so they were definitely self inflicted. I have never talked to her before but I'm wondering if maybe I should tell a teacher. What should I do and why does she do this? IIN??

  • The fact thats shes showing it around on purpose saying "I dont know how it got there" is showing she is looking for attention. If I was in your school at the age your at and she was in my class I would tell her infront of all the people shes trying to impress that she is an attention whore and that shes not special or different and that nearly 40% of teenagers do the exact same thing so your not unique.
Maybe it will get her to stop being an attention seeker I advise you to say that to her.

Being cruel to somebody's feelings in front of everybody that has already proven to be unstable to this point, its no telling what could happen. Plus it would be mean. Do u have no empathy?

It's called cutting. People who do it are normally very depressed. The cutting feels worse than the emotional pain. It almost temporarily distracts them from emotional pain. It sounds like this person is asking for help. Most people who do this hide it. You don't know her story and don't want to make her situation worse. If you are truly wanting to help her, tell some that you can trust your feelings on the issue.

there are different types of cutters: attention seeking, wanna bes, and actual ones. I've never known a real one, just an attention seeker. this girl seems legit, you should tell a teacher.

It's possible that she's try to put a light on here situation. You'd have to be pretty low of a person to do that for attention.

She might have a bad life at home or something.

I think the right thing to do here is to tell a teacher..... Sure she might be crying out for attention but maybe she really does need help, this could be her way of asking for help

  • The situation is sad for a very different reason than the obvious.

I agree, she wants attention... But what a messed up way to get it!! If i was in your situation, i would tell someone i trust, someone who knows how to handle...
