Is it normal for the heart to feel like it flutters?

I used to get this maybe once a month when I was little, then I got it once a week, now I get it at least once a day every day..sometimes more. It scares me. Is this normal?

Could I drop dead from this? I'm only 20, I don't smoke, I drink any caffeine, and I am a healthy weight.

I exercise 3 times a week for 1 hour, I take walks, I run, etc.

One time a few days ago, I got it and I felt dizzy afterwards but It may have been in my head, but I never felt dizzy before during one of these. I was in public though and I was running on 4 hours of sleep, but I've done that before...

Have any ideas? I'm thinking of going to the doctor soon, but I really need to know if its normal, thanks.

heart palpatations...i've had them for years. they are harmless but it could be something more serious so definitely see a doctor to make sure!

A lot of people have heart arrhythmias, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't get it checked out. If your heartbeat gets fast for no reason it could be atrial fibrillation (your pulse will be irregular), which would put you in danger of blood clots. Or it could be a reentry tachycardia (regular pulse): if you have this, you're in danger of getting a rapid heart rate for a long period of time, which would eventually starve your heart of oxygen. There are other causes, but those are the major ones.

Especially worrisome is the fact it's becoming more frequent, and you're starting to have other symptoms as a result. It should be fairly simple to treat. Please go see a doctor about it as soon as possible. I'm not making this stuff up; I've worked in medical cardiology for 10 years and I know my stuff =]

I have the same problem. It might just be a minor case of tachecardia, which means rapid heart. It's nothing serious.

90% of the population has some type of harmless heart murmer. It is still best to get it checked out. I did and ended up needing surgery..take care of yourself.
