Is it normal for my 13 year old step-son to want his 10 year old brother to sleep in the same bed with him? When we asked the 10 year old if that is what he wanted, all he said was, " I guess so." I'm worried because I don't have children of my own and have only been part of this family for two years. They have their own beds in the same room, and the 13 year old requested to share a room with the 10 year old even when he was offered his own, private room. The boys are often grabbing each others genitals, usually laughing about it. I found an art book that belongs to the 13 year old that has pictures of penises drawn on animals. With written descriptions like, "Big cock on horse". My husband was sexually abused at the age of 12 by his grandfather, forced to have sex with his female cousin, while the grandfather told them how to perform on each other. When I voice my concerns to him, he responds by saying that it isn't a big deal. I know that the 13 year old is going through puberty, and I am very worried.

    That's very creepy. You don't think it's possible that the grandfather has messed with them or has your husband cut all ties from that monster? At 13, he should know better than to grab his younger brother genitals and to have his brother grab his. The "I guess so" part makes it sound like he doesn't really want to do it, but is anyway. Make them see a therapist. This is very odd. Your husband needs a wake up call. I know he was abused, but maybe he doesn't want to admit that there's something wrong with his elder son.

    I have tried and tried to get them to sleep in their own beds, it creeps me out too! I'm the step-mom, and if their own dad won't reinforce it, WTF am I supposed to do? I have a really strong feeling that something is going on and/or has happened. I don't know what to do!!!

    What do they wear when they sleep? I would say if the older one sleeps nude and the younger one wears pjs or gym shorts or something that's probably a sign that he's really not comfortable with the whole thing and maybe the older one is making unwanted advances. But, if they both sleep in their undies or nude, then it's definitely no big deal. I slept in the same bed with my older bro until he went off to college. Nobody ever thought twice about it.
