I don't go to bars often but more than ten times I can recall a stranger sitting at the bar would buy me a beer, no big deal. Sometimes we chat for a moment other times we won't say more than hello
(and ofcourse I say thanks ) but is this common acceptable bar room behavior? And would another guy feel weird if I bought him a beer out of the blue? Is it a money bags McGee thing or a gay thing ?

    Nah dude it's totally normal. I buy dude's beers all the time an dude's buy me beers. Nowt wrong with it.
    I suppose the earlier post's saying it's just a male bonding thing are right :)
    It's a dude's way of striking up a conversation i reckon.

    Totally normal, lots of times the regulars buy a beer for a newer guy or maybe it's to start a conversation or just show hospitality. Lots of times, the person who recieved the free beer buys one back for the guy who bought first. (I was a bartender)

    Are you at a gay bar or a straight dive?

    It's pretty common at the bars I go to. Sometimes people pick up the tab for others, no biggie.

    It's a bonding thing. I've bought countless pints for men I've got chatting to in bars and have been bought almost as many back.

    Guys used to buy me beers all the time. Sure, sometimes they were hitting on me, but a lot of times they just have had a few drinks themselves and would like the company.
