Is it normal for someone to randomly become a lesbian?

Is it normal to change from being straight to being a lesbian in like 2 days? A friend of mine switched to the "other side" in the blink of an eye. Although I think this is just a phase and a way to get attention, could it be possible to just change that quickly?

One does not simply change. Being lesbian is something your born with. You notice it right when your little. She might have been ignoring it all her life and recently came out of the closet, or maybe she is getting attention.

    • ^^^^At least someones smart enough to know that sexuality is fixed. You can't "change" because that would just be "pretending". Choosing your sexuality is the stupidest thing i've ever heard, and "bi" is just a combo of greed/boredom/high sex drive/attention/lameness.

Bisexual people though, there isn't anything wrong with them. They just enjoy both genders. But people to just randomly change sexuality is stupid because then they are faking it.

thats exactly what i think and said, but she told me not to get into her business even though we were bestfriends.
so i don't know, i mean she even said alll the time she'd never kiss a girl, and then bammm.
      crazy shit.

    blink of an eye?

most likely it wasn't as random as you thought, but rather something that she was thinking of for a long time... and just didn't tell you about.

    that does happen.

    yes, it's normal.

it's called "coming out of the closet".
I, by nature of my sexuality and lifestyle, know many lesbians.
Many of them would not admit even to close friends that they were interested in girls, in the simplest reason because they did not want to alienate someone or had a crush on someone in their clique.
Thats also why many of them refused to be "bisexual", because then their attraction to another girl of the group and attempts to spend time with them could have been seen as weird.
It was better to just be straight. Until at some time, they "revealed" their true nature and dropped their mask, aka "going from straight to lesbian in 60 seconds".

Of course it could well be a ruse to just get attention, and be nothing more than a phase...but bisexuality is more popular for that ;)

I'm not one of those people who claim sexuality can't change, ever. But I really doubt it can happen overnight like that, barring something bizarre like a brain injury.

So more likely she's either pretending to be lesbian, was already a lesbian and pretended to be straight, is really bisexual and switched teams for secondary reasons, or something of the sort.

If you say she 'hated' even talking about kissing or being with a woman then perhaps she is lesbian or Bi. Often people struggling to identify their own sexuality will display an increased aversion to talking about it.

She is 1.doing it to look cool 2.was gay and just realized it 3.confused and not sure what she is 4.curious and experimenting 5.In denial and so is going back and fourth fighting her urge of what she thinks is correct and what she wants to do

I can see sexual attraction to other girls but not completely change your orientation.

I am getting so tired of these "flip-flop" posts. You are born gay/lesbian. You CAN'T change. Especially not in 2 f-ing days. She was probably bi. Like seriously who can resist vagina. :P But seriously you can't change the fact that you are lesbian, gay, or bisexual. I think your friend is bisexual. Just my thought. :P

You are not born gay or straight. If that was the case we would have a lot more sexually active 6 year olds and we dont. Sexuality is activated during puberty when young men and women start spouting hair in unexpected placed, get acne, and start getting horny. Many teens are sexually active from the beginning of puberty. If you believe babys are horny than that means we would have every 6 year old doing it and that is not extremely common. At that point sexual urges do not exist yet. So how do you expect to guess sexuality from that?

Yes, sexuality is a fluid thing and you can sometimes change. I am bisexual, but I go through phases - I never fancy men and women and the same time.

It's abnormal in that it's unlikely. But there's nothing wrong with it, and, contrary to what these people are saying, we don't in fact know that sexuality is something you're born with. There are genes associated with it, environmental factors associated with it, etc., and furthermore, we've no reason to believe that there's only one cause to begin with.

Note that this makes no concessions to the homophobes out there. My contempt for them knows no bounds. But let's not tout non-science to support a good cause - that does just as much damage to tolerance as the other side.

Sexuality is a mainstream constraint, perpetrated by religions and governments etc. Who have themselves dabbled in homosexuality behind their public fronts.
There is no such thing as gay. Be free to enjoy sex in all of It's many forms and be a truly liberated human.

She just might be doing it for attention is most likly the answer to your question. but who knows? I came out when I was 15. everyone knew me had known. I've never had a crush on a boy. only on girls in my school. has she shown any signs of liking the same sex when she was Supposedly straight? but if not, she might be confused.

No she never showed signs. It just came from one night to the next, probably is confused or faking.

Did she show any signals or signs that she might be "in the Closet" before she said she was a lesbian?

She might be doing it to avoid a guy who might be trying to get her that she dont like. Many girls I knew used the "Im a lesbian" trick to get rid of a guy.

Noo she never did, she actually hated to think about being with a girl, if we talked about it I mean.

Yeah thats true the lesbian trick, but she wasn't trying to get rid of anyone. I think she went back to being "straight" now.
