Is it normal for someone to offer to listen and then not listen?

Someone told me a few days ago that I can talk to them any time I need to, and then I decided to vent to them today and they stopped responding and then came back and talked about how tired they were.

Very few people wish to actually become involved with another person and their issues.

Thus, they fake interest; and don't follow through.

Normal if it happened that once- people can’t always drop what they’re doing, they have things on their mind and having the stress of worrying about another’s struggles can be too much at once if they’re already tried. They have to attend to their needs too. Sometimes we’re too tired, but that doesn’t mean we don’t support our friends; it’s okay to be tired. Maybe this just happened to be a bad day for them.

Maybe the person felt worn out, and really was genuinely tired?

Yeah. At least they offered to, thats more than some do but a lot of people offer just to sound like they care but they dont actually do so.

Yeah it’s normal. A lot of people just say that to say that if you know what I mean. I think that it is a little immature of someone though to offer themselves up as a listening ear just to decide to ignore you. However there are a lot of people who are like this. If you’re lucky enough you’ll find somebody who’ll really listen.
