Is it normal for someone to not know what anime is?

I know a few people who have no idea what anime is, despite anime being popular all over the world, and it is quite difficult to avoid at all.

    Its more of an age thing than anyone else.

    Within the USA anyone under 30 will know of what an anime is.

    Most people older than 60 will not.

    There is a transition between those 2 ages.

    I know what anime is but I have absolutely no interest in it whatsoever but to like it is your choice.

    I dont think i've ever heard of a person who didn't know what anime is. Well aside from my parents and such but they just never heard the term and consider anime the same as cartoons or something similar to Simpsons - cartoons for adults.

    Anime has become way more popular in recent years than it formerly was. I don't think it's necessarily weird not to know what it is but it's becoming increasingly likely that the average person will.

    Not everyone knows what anime is. I wouldn't say it is abnormal but maybe other people are used to another style of cartoon therefore don't know about anime.

      Only people who live under a rock have no knowledge of what anime is.
