Is it normal for someone to dislike their birthday?

My boyfriend of a few years has just told me he really, really doesn't like his birthday. I asked him if there was anything specific he wanted just go get all the bases covered before my search, but he told me "Nothing" and that he would "Rather not celebrate it. " He never seemed that way on his other birthdays and didn't give me a reason why, so naturally I'm really confused. In love giving him gifts, whether it's a store-bought gift or homemade or just something personal. I want him to feel happy on his birthday, not super miserable. Help?!

    I don't like celebrating my birthday either, to me, it's a whole lot of fuss over nothing

    I like celebrating other people's birthdays and making a big deal for them, but I try to hide when mine is because I hate being the center of that attention. Normally I'm center of attention anywhere I go just because I'm loud and outgoing and don't mind making a fool out of myself for other people's amusement but don't sing me that fucking song and I'll call it good

    Maybe he has everything he needs. There have been times I didnt want anything because I had too much crap already and more crap only seemed burdening. Im always throwing away stuff and many times I have gotten somehing somebody wasted money on that went straight to donation bins.
