Is it normal for so many underage people to be on this site?

I have just stumbled upon this site today, and when registering, it stipulated that I needed to be over 18.
Seeing some of the polls regarding eg How old were you on 9/11 or How old are You, it is quite obvious that about 50% who answered are not 18. Some would appear to be 12yrs old.
Whilst some children can be mature, it is a pretty bad show for anyone who is administering this site to accept this.
It also puts a hold on what some adults might like to say. Would an inappropiate comment made by an adult be removed because it might offend the children who should not be on this site?
Is it normal for me to be concerned?

There's worse things on the internet than little comments on this message board.

I'll be glad when your name is "SoccerStud88" rather than "SoccerStud88 (75411)".

It means you are the 75411th person to join IIN I think, when you have no number is when you get banned or you delete your account.

underage kids feel insecure too as long as there a pre teen i think it should be okay. i mean imagine that "loser girl" with the parents who dont really care getting her first period she might not have anywhere else to turn.
    just my thoughts

The fact of the matter is that it's quite easy for young people to just lie about their age and register anyway. There's not much we can do about this. If someone does slip up and mention their age in a post/comment then we take appropriate action at that time. We do our best.

I'm 16, but I always try and put foreward useful and mature comments, and I think that from a lot of my comments most people couldn't tell if I was 18 or not. I am ceratinly more mature and helpful than most of the trolls on IIN, which are also breaking the rules but often don't get banned. Now that I've said this, Management can go and ban me if they like, I don't really care. I'll just make a new account anyway. I've been here for a little while now, and if nobody can tell that I'm under 18 without me saying, I think that that passes the maturity test easily.

I wouldn't have known you were under 18. But then, age doesn't equal maturity, does it? Some people get it earlier than others. Your posts are always considered, your advice is good, and I'm glad you're on the site regardless of age.

To the OP: Anyone can read the site, regardless of age and there's not a lot anyone can do about that. You don't even need an account here. I'd be more bothered by what people read, rather than whether they can post.

It's no different than the rest of the internet. Anyone who posts here (or anywhere on the internet) should be aware of the responsibilities that arise when addressing an unknown and mixed audience. It goes for more than just age. Not everyone here is straight, white, American, over 18, and male. We're a mix.

Thats all you can do. The internet is impossible to govern at this stage.
There are adults that act like children and visa versa. I was concerned at one stage, but it is what it is :)
      I like this site.

Just have to wonder what it would be like if an 28yr old was discovered on a website for 12 yr old kids.

I'd children under the age of 18 get offended by something oh well. They don't have to log on.

I do not think that is the point of the rule. It is a legal issue. Go look up the rules and you will see why.

I wonder why administrators are elected to websites if there is nothing they can do about 12yr olds being on supposedly 18yr old+ sites. Other sites will contact the member and take their IP address and monitor. I am not being a fuddy, l just wonder if it is normal for so many juniors to WANT to be on adult sites when there are sooooo many teen sites that 12 yr olds could manage to creep into without being so evident.
