Is it normal for single parent families to have less pictures?

I am in my early 20s and was looking through my family photo album. My dad left me and my mom when I was three years old. There are tons of pictures of me, me and family pets, me and other family members and even a few of me and my mom. From grade one until present day, all there is are school pictures from every grade, pictures of just me on my birthday and Christmas (these stop by junior high) and less than five of me and my mom and none of me with family pets or other family members.
Mom says this is because she was a single parent and low on finances so she either didn't have time to take pictures or couldn't afford to pay a photographer but I am worrying the lack of photos will be depressing as I get older and forget my past but, unlike others, can't look back on pictures for memories.
Is the lack of pictures normal and is my worrying normal?

Reading that made me sad :( yeah I can understand that. Family photos were never the same after my parents divorced. My mom got remarried so then the trend started again, but it's rough when your parents aren't together anymore. I actually do have lots of pictures of my childhood, but I've forgotten a lot of it and the pictures don't really help me remember. It's still nice to have the pictures though, if only to be able to show my possible descendants.

But how do you/will you remember what your parents look like after they die when you miss them and/or just want to look at them even if it's just a picture?

You are a fake bitch with no self esteem who sucks up to others for validation.

Of course the photos would be less because your mother's life is in tatters and there's nobody else to hold the camera.

But elderly people are known for losing their memory...so are middle aged people. I don't want to be sitting there one day and realize I can't remember what my mom looks like or I can't remember what I used to look like. People who have tons of pictures or at least yearly family portraits don't have this issue. That's how I see it.

If forgetting your mom is what you're worried about, take a picture of her. Shouldn't be hard.
Also, this might seem like too much work, but if you really care you can do it. Get a journal and write down anecdotes that you can remember from your childhood. You don't have to write all your memories, just things you remember well or that made you happy. If you are older and trying to remember your past, these will be as good as or better than pictures of an event.

What did people do before cameras were invented? The past is gone and the future might never happen.
