Is it normal for people to care so much about the constitution?

It really annoys me when people use it as an excuse to keep things traditional and stop them from advancing. How do people not realize that times change and that the same laws don't work forever? I mean really how long are we expected to have to follow the rules that some old dudes made hundreds of years ago.

Agreed. It's just a weak excuse.

With the "logic" that you're using,
"How do people not realize that times change and that the same laws don't work forever? I mean really how long are we expected to have to follow the rules that some old dudes made hundreds of years ago."
If everyone thought this was true, in a few years time murder will be legal.
The constitution was designed to protect the citizenship, freedom, and individuality of every American citizen. Something I personally think we've lost a lot of.
Go into politics and get elected if you want things your way. But good luck.

Well here is a concept. Get elected and try to enact laws to change the parts you don't like. When you can convince enough voters to change the law, then you will have your way.

Other than the wording of the fourteenth amendment, and the electoral college, I'd say it's about the finest thing that was ever made in the USA. So OP, you better propose something with rock solid argumentation, because if you don't you're dumb as a brick.

I'm Canadian but I'm exceptionally worried about what they might do to the constitution. I think upholding it's integrity is paramount to maintaining any sort of civility.

Who gets to decide what counts as "advancing?"

"I mean really how long are we expected to have to follow the rules that some old dudes made hundreds of years ago."

There are many constitutions more recent than our own that do a worse job at protecting their citizenry. We also have the amendment process that allows us to change things about it, but only is large-scale consensus is achieved as to not allow a small minority to outmaneuver the general populace.

The only thing that separated the United States from every other country that I have visited on this planet, was the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Dubya did a marvelous job of castrating both, and the result is the police state that the US is becoming.
You have absolutely no idea of what you've lost and will never know, as there's no chance in hell that the government will give those rights back to the people.
That you would even post suck tripe shows your total ignorance on the subject and leads me to hope you get exactly what you are wishing for. If you want a short cut to that end, move to Russia and I believe you would be a very happy, simple minded dolt.

I don't want to get rid of the thing. I just mean there are obviously things in it that aren't acceptable for present day. Chill out.
