Is it normal for people to call me tall?

I wear 4 inch wedged heels but I'm 5'4 (average height) without them and 5'8 with them.

People I work with keep calling me tall and meaning it. It makes me laugh but confuses me how they don't think about my shoes. One of them is an inch under me with flats on so I imagine she's like 3 inches taller than me. Even a 5'10 chick calls me tall and says "we're the tall people, we're lucky" I'm like dude, I'm 5'4! lmao. Now I'm afraid to ever wear flat shoes.

is it normal for people to do this even though it's clear I wear either heels or wedged heels?

Then when one of 'em said it, I said "the heels make me tall" and their reply is "heels only add an inch, I doubt that makes a difference" I'm like...4 inches dude, 4! I even have some 5 inch wedges I wore too.

Dude, you're still tall to me with or without shoes. But you'd probably never notice. People never notice that I am under 5 foot unless they hug me. Then they laugh at how the obvious went unnoticed for so long.

The old ladies that i work for call me tall. I always thought I was kinda short at 5'6" but I'm seeing so many women several inches shorter than me these days. I know I'm not tall but I don't consider myself short anymore.

It seems the women around you are oblivious. Obviously it's the shoes, girls!

Keep wearing those heels if you want to permanently damage your feet and your lower back

Generally, people don't look at your shoes. I am almost 5'2, a bit less than 5'2, and I had always worn flats. Suddenly, I got 5 inch wedges. I thought everyone would notice them because the "short girl" is now 5'7, but NO. NO ONE SAID ANYTHING. Life went on. Strange...

Ha ha... no. They talked to me as usual, but didn't mention the difference in height.

I think it's pretty normal they are calling you tall since most of the females I come into contact with are not 5"8 and above , mind you there are plenty of them in the world . I think they assume you are tall because they are mostly looking at you and paying no mind to your shoes which makes me think the money they charge for those things are a waste . I will say though , I tend to agree with elenna ... I would think heels would be bad for your body as well , if it hurts when you get out of them horribly like most girls say it does .. it cant be good ha

Are you really so insecure as to need to wear 4 inch heels? Why? What's wrong with just being who you are?
I don't believe I've ever known a man who is so insecure that he needed to wear high heels. Wow.

    • You missed the point of my post entirely. I never once in my life wore heels because I am insecure lmao. I wear heels because I like the look of them, period.

So you carry a full length mirror around with you all day, to admire yourself in high heels? You're right, perhaps it's NOT insecurity that is your problem.

I just wish some would see the humor and not get so offended.

It's quite humorous, but can easily be taken the wrong way. It sounds like you are trying to be insulting.
