Is it normal for people to call me as such?

I've had recently corrected a friend of her misuse of the word. It was an issue about context.

My other friend simply proceeded in telling me to 'chill' and 'stop being such a grammar nazi'. I told him it wasn't about grammar. And he says, 'a vocabulary nazi then'.

Then they both agreed that I'm a 'nazi'. I have never truly felt offended being called such words but this time I just got tired of the lackluster chucking of that terminology.

I have quite a history of correcting others in terms of spelling and grammar but I can't understand why these kind of people would just throw the word 'grammar nazi' like that.

I understand it can be annoying being corrected but why can't you appreciate it when I'm helping you out with shit? I'm not trying to be sanctimonious, I just want to help so you won't be making a mistake again.

At some point I just felt like giving up talking to these people.

"I've had recently", "Friend simply proceed in", "call me as such"...

    "grammar. And he says"

Never start a sentence with "and"; never begin a sentence with a conjunction.

If you're going to pick and pry regarding grammar, at least learn how to form your sentences properly. You're trying way too hard and it shows.

Not at all. You're actually the opposite: Grammar fail.

  • Why cant you just ignore grammar mistakes? Why do you give a rats ass about other peoples grammar who gives a shit? They didn't ask you for help. Stop being a grammar nazi.

    • Not when my friends usually ask me to check their grammar. Out of the blue calling me a 'grammar nazi' because they're mad at me, they'll use that tactic- thinking it'll offend me the most. :/

If you don't like being called a grammar nazi then don't act like one. I know you honestly think you're helping, but it's best to not offer unsolicited advice and opinions.

Meh. I don't care if some people think I'm a prude. I know what I am regardless of what others think I am.

Because nobody cares as long as whats being said is understood. Otherwise your just seeking validation for knowing the correct English.

I'm like you. I notice mistakes ALL the time, but I only correct those who appreciate it, like my sister. I would never mind if I was being corrected, because I like the idea of perpetually improving. That's what friends are for, right? they correct you so you don't look like a dumbass at work/school or other places you could be embarrassed

BUT. Majority people don't work that way, they don't like any sort of criticism. They don't see it as being helped out, but you being nitpicky/hardass/grammar-nazi. don't take it personally. And some may even see it as you being a smartass, trying to upstage them, or trying to look superior. it's true!

    You have 2 choices:

    1) take it as a compliment and hold your own. be yourself, if you 8/10 people don't like you, there will be two who like you for YOU. and that's more valuable than 100 token friends.

    2) learn to listen, be quiet, smile, and correct them in your head :) and be more easy-going. people like those who are easy going.
