Is it normal for people to always add 'he/she's gay!!!!'?

I don't get around much so I'm asking, is it normal for a person to mention another person's homosexuality right away?

Here's an example of how this unfolds:

"Have you ever met Dave's math teacher?"

me: "...uh, no."

"He seems like a really good teacher, he went to Yale and he's GAAAYYYYYYY!!"

This is my mom who does this. It's like, what? Who cares if he's gay? And why are you saying this within the first sentence of describing him?

I don't even know what to say to her anymore. I've said 'why do you care if someone's gay' or 'what does being gay have to do with anything' so many times and it doesn't sink in with her. What else could I say next time she does this? It really pisses me off because it's so rude and hateful and it's also irrelevant. The word 'gay' always comes out in this long, drawn out loud whisper of a tone accompanied by a hand partially covering her mouth (as if telling a secret) and an "icky" facial expression too....'he's GAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYY', I want to just kill her when she does this!!

is it normal for people to mention gayness right off the bat like this when describing someone?

PS-yes the picture is a dude but this is a really good idea of her expression so you can see how ultra annoying this is.

When she talks about straight people, does she go "Do you remember my friend Mary? She's STRAAAAIGHT!"

    Normal, but totally annoying.

Diverse sexuality in this country will not be truly tolerated until people wake up and realize that sexuality isn't the defining aspect to who someone is as a person.

Unless said person wants to screw them. Then I would say that it is pretty important.

Maybe you should start doing the "Remember my friend so and so? She's straight." twist.

  • We comment on peoples appearances and actions that stand out, it's just a way of describing them.

It's not normal ... It is just how people who are not comfortable with it react ...

I for one think people should be able to love whoever they want .. Gay,straight,Cats dogs whatever floats your boat as long as your not hurting anyone ...

I also am not comfortable around Gay men and still consider it yucky but that is only because I am a guy and I am still trying to figure out why the hell women even like us .. I mean when I look at my ball sac I think who the fuck in the right mind would wanna play with that shit ...

So it's confuses me because Women are beautiful Men not so much ... The only rational thing I can think of that would ever make me wanna be gay is to have a partner that understand what I am saying instead of always trying to turn it into something it's not like my wife always does LOL..

Then again Gays even my gay friends are usually 10 times more dramatic and catty then a normal women .. They are like women on steroids with penises.

Yes I do have 1 or 2 gay friends and they both agree with me completey some of our conversation are pretty funny and messed up

To add to this Some gays make it very hard to accept .. Gay pride parade is Disgusting in every way of the word ... Even if they were all straight the behavior and the way they dress for Gay pride parade is simply disgusting ...

I am all for there rights as people but you don't see Ellen Degenres wearing buttless leather chaps with a spiked leather dog collar walking down town Toronto saying Accept me ...

I think The way to fight for rights has a fine line and the Gay pride parade only brings in negative reactions to anyone with kids and proper morals...

If I ever caught my kids acting and dressing like some people there oooooooo man watch out...

I think it brings shame to anyone to have there friends and families dressing up like half naked side shows ...

Also I know they all don't do it because I have been to it but the ones tht do are not helping the world accept gays.

I am on niether side of a fence .. I like normal acting people PERIOD... Who you sleep with mean very little but how you act as a person does mean something and what I mean by that is Nobody should be walkigng around down town half naked(Have some respec for yourself) No man should talk like a women it has nothing to do with Sexual preference yet alot of gay men have adapted to acting like and sounding like owmen ...

I love everyone but there is a time and a place and the only place your gonna catc me half naked is in the bathroom or bedroom

It's normal, but if she's doing it in a rude way (like stating that being gay is "bad" or "wrong") then that's really uncool.

My friend would constantly refer to this guy as "her gay friend". Every time she mentioned him. Yeah, it got annoying.

Tell her your gay, then maybe she'll have sympathy for gay people, or like people above said, point out everyone who's straight.

i did this when i was talking to a friend about a celebrity. I was surprised to find out this, cause i would have never thought that in a million years that he was, untill they mentioned something about him and his boyfriend on tv. I wanted to know if my friend knew, and my friend replied, he already knew.

  • Maybe shes secretly pissed off because she wants to get FUCKED by him in the worst way imagineable. You can mention that to her next time it happens.

Sometimes knowing someone's sexual orientation can be important information

I must confess I might have done it few times. My little cousin who went to my high school asked me about a teacher. So I told her all I knew about him, and added "Oh. He's so so gay"I wasn't pretending to be rude or anything. But it just came to my mind.

Although, hey, if I was introducing a friend who's gay I don't think I would come up with it. Unless they asked me to. Maybe they want because it makes it easier for them; as in, other gay people will know?
