Is it normal for people preparing for tomorrow or the future?

That show 'Doomsday Preppers' seems kind of silly but kind of smart..those people know what they're doing. But if people saw my family preparing for the end of the world, natural disaster, nuclear explosion..etc they would think we're crazy..what do you think? Should we worry for ourselves? Or should we just let things be? Either way everybody is going to die eventually..

There is no shame in Disaster Preparation.

There are millions of people on the East Coast RIGHT NOW that probably wish they had stocked up supplies and prepared for the disaster when forecasters said it was coming.

Personally, it is highly encouraged in my church and we have several resources available to us that sell things like a few weeks worth of non-perishable rations and disaster kits... pretty cool stuff too.

So yeah, some people might think they're crazy... up until they're starving and cold because THEY didn't prepare.

Yep it's normal a lot of people do this that is why they have multiple ISA accounts.

I think worrying does no good. If you can't help it, it's fine. But if you can...

There's no reason for anyone to worry about things that haven't happened yet, and things the course of which it's too late to change.

Those people on that show are not smart. They're also very overconfident.

In a small-ish natural disaster, they'd probably be fine. In a doomsday scenario, they're done for.

  • It's silly to prepare for a snowstorm when you live in Hawaii.

Prepare but prepare for plausible things.

I don't think it's a bad idea. We have lots of stupid people sitting in control of countries, who have nukes and aren't intelligent enough to know when or how to use them. The people who would survive are the crazy ones, the ones with fallout shelters in their back yard and 3 years supply of spam.

If I had the money to prepare myself, I probably would. That way I know I have some hope or some escape plan even if this world goes to shit.

We get hit by hurricanes almost every year, and we still dont prepare. If its a 3 or more we take all the money out the bank and overdraw and haul ass lol Otherwise ride it out and if shit gets bad bend over and kiss our asses goodbye. As for preparedness we just kinda go with it, we feel our tubs jugs and sinks with water if we know its hitting us.

I don't live in a part of the world where there are likely to be large, life-threatening natural disasters which would need preparing for. And I don't believe in any "doomsday" scenario, at least not any I've heard of. Preparing for a natural disaster is very sensible if you're at all likely to be struck by one though.

Good luck. Hey if you have any extra room can I join you? I think that doomsday preppers are awesome and wish I had the time to prep. But I will die with the rest of the unprepared people.

I live back in the woods, you see
A woman and the kids, and the dogs and me. I got a shotgun rifle and a 4-wheel drive. I can plow a field all day long. I can catch catfish from dusk till dawn. We make our own whiskey and our own smoke too. Ain’t too many things these ole boys can’t do. We grow good ole tomatoes and homemade wine. Because you can’t starve us out. And you cant makes us run
Cuz we're them old boys raised on a shotgun. We came from the West Virginia coal mines And the Rocky Mountains and the and the western skies. And we can skin a buck; we can run a trout line, a country boy will survive. That would make a good song, yeah? Haha

Preparing for doomsday is different than preparing for a natural disaster.

I live near a fault line so it's wise to be somewhat prepared for an earthquake. But if an earthquake goes off, better keep your eye on those volcanoes. Fortunately they give you small warnings. But they never tell you which way they will go.

Natural disasters don't happen where I live, so preparing for that is pointless. No active volcanoes, no earthquakes, at least 113m elevation, no tornadoes, no hurricanes, no draughts. The worst thing that could happen is flooding as occurred back in 2002, but most ppl live far enough away from the river.
Disaster preparation for us consists of stocking up on oil/gas before the winter and buying land, to sell to the people whose land will be underwater in 100 years.

My advise to people who live in 'danger zones', move to a different region.

No. The day that happens is the day I snog the Queen. Not gonna happen.

        Would be fun though

I'd prefer an alien apocalypse though

Which one? Zombie Apocalypse or snogging the Queen:P? I don't like the sound of either. Regardless of whether it's Alien or Zombie, can't say I'm a huge fan of the whole Apocalypse thing, to be honest.

            Both.

I reckon zombies would be easier to kill of though, they seem pretty brain dead.
Aliens however could be into some pretty advanced shit

Someone has to invent a virus that turns people into zombies first.

I'm not preparing for anything. I didn't realise that we had anything to prepare for. Aside from the Zombie Apocalypse, of course. I forgot about that one. Oops, silly me! I guess I'm getting eaten then. Oh well.
