Is it normal for people being irritated by poor grammar?

Before I piss certain people off again (not that I care anyway), I feel it is absolutely necessary for me to tell a bit background about me first. Since when I was a baby, I became deaf after I get better from fever called meningitis that almost took over my life. Now, I'm still struggle with what to say something and one of last things I want to do is ask anyone if I speak it correctly. I can't hear to recognize what's it like to have grammar on daily basis. I don't like to take too much of my time to try to fix my English grammar, I like to be around people who don't mind or even unaware that I make some mistakes when I make up a casual joke. Now that Internet is use by different people from other countries worldwide, I don't get it why some people would got tick off?

People immediately label those with bad grammar as being dumb and therefore inferior, regardless of the fact that intelligence and grammar can be mutually exclusive. That's why people dislike poor grammar usage, because it just sounds dumb, but don't let that get you down. You are intelligent and their are other ways with which to show it besides speech.

A lot of people get really irritated by poor grammar usage. I'll admit it does annoy me a bit, but it's not even that that really gets me. It's people who are well aware of how to spell a word but spell it completely wrong to save themselves one or two keystrokes. Like typing 'u' instead of 'you' or the worst 'noe' instead of 'know', 'm8b' instead of 'maybe'. You get my point. For me, it's because it's hard to take a person seriously that types that way. I just think it's lazy and makes people look ignorant. Just my opinion!

I agree with you because there are plenty of well educated men and women that don't know how to spell. My question is, what does it mean because it must mean something, right?

I think the sad thing is, whether this be fair or not, bad grammar says a lot about a person and it's interpreted in many different ways. I will be the first to tell you that every time I read "your" when it should be "you're" I think to myself "what an idiot". What I find unfathomable is that people who read so much can make so many grammatical errors. It's as if there is no retention whatsoever.

It really depends. Is it some lazy person who just doesn't care about it even though he/she IS capable of decent grammar? Or is it someone who is new or does not speak the language in his/her daily life? If I am unable to find out, I just try to not mind it. After all, I myself am not a native English speaker. I only started using English practically four years ago. But if you're able to write decently, then DO write decently.

And I agree with gowila, because it's true. You can present a perfect argument, only to have your opponent point out that "it's 'has', not 'have." Oh, okay, I'M SORRY. Now are you going to rebut my points or not?!

  • Ooops! Spelling error: "...see it as a SIGN..."

  • Some people see it as a sigh of either a lack of education or laziness.

Your reason for grammatical imperfections is perfectly acceptable. As I type, I am saying the words to myself in my head; as if I am dictating to myself. If you have never had the experience of speaking, you may not do this, so your experience would be completely unique. That's so cool!

What fascinates me the most are people's inability to recognize that a word is spelled wrong despite them being avid readers. Why is there no recognition factor of an error or a "that doesn't look right" thought?

I'm the same way. Most people refer to it as being a "Grammar Nazi."

I don't mind. If you've got something to say, i'll hear (or read) you out. it's that, not the grammar, that's important. Grammar is just a tool to get your message across. If what is said or written can still be understood, then that's fine.

Anyway, my grammar is not perfect, so I couldn't nit pick with others euen if I wanted to heh.

I think people who are loosing an arguement in writing they tend to point out gramatical errors to try and win.

I think it's pathetic. I knew a dweeby arsehole who would write all his arguements out in Microsoft word, and then cut and paste the post.

It's pathetic and does not mean you are uneducated.
