It can be safe for overweight women to lose weight during pregnancy, but you should see a doctor to make sure, especially if the weight loss is unintentional or if you haven't had a significant change in diet.
SEE A DOCTOR? Loss of appetite and unexplained weight loss during pregnancy can be a sign or symptom of diabetes. Many woman get diabetes while pregnant and then it goes away after the baby is born. But if you have a history of diabetes in your family, and at 295 it sounds like you were over weight before you got pregnant, being over weight is the #1 cause of Type 2 diabetes. I know. I was over weight, and now have Type 2 diabetes. Except I am male and don't have to worry about getting or being pregnant. You may have been borderline diabetic before getting pregnant and the pregnancy just sent it into high gear. The other signs are constant EXTREME thirst and frequent urination. However, those are also things that you experience when you are pregnant. Bottom line. Go see your doctor and have them run a lipped panel.
You need to see a doctor at least once a month when you are pregnant for prenatal screenings because if the baby has some sort of defect and it can be corrected early on, getting that screening once a month with most likely catch it.
I am assuming that you haven't been seeing a regular doctor because if you had such a dramatic loss of weight, your doctor would have picked up on it by now unless you literally dropped the weight in a week or two.
I would recommend that you go to
plannedparenthood.org
If you live in the US, and they will be able to provide services to you for a low or no cost rate. This does not sound normal but most of us here are not medical experts so please check the website out and schedule regular prenatal screenings.
The weight lost wasn't "dramatic", it happened within the last 2-3 months. I do not live in the US n money is not a problem, my work schedule is just kinda busy.
Ah, then I think it is probably safe to assume that you haven't been attending pre-natal checkups.
Please, please do so. You have no idea the danger you run when you forego prenatal exams. There are SO many things that can go wrong in utero and doctors can correct it before the time comes.
My cuz lost 40 lbs and my sister in law 25lbs they gained some weight later on. Both were fine and had healthy babies but go see you doctor to b sure its ok and healthy for you and your baby. Best of luck and congrats on becoming a mommy!!
How overweight were you? Some weight loss is understandable, but your health care provider should be alerted to this. Were you losing weight before you got pregnant? What is your diet like and how different is it now than it was pre-pregnancy?
Before i got pregnant i was 295lbs now i'm 275lbs (and counting). I started losing the weight slowly around week 4. The nausea might have something to do with it, bcuz i rarely have an appetite. When i do get an appetite i eat about 1/3 the food i ate before getting pregnant.
