Is it normal for nigerians to eat dog food?

I know people will think this is made up, but I swear on my daughter's life it isn't. A few years ago, I was in a gas station in London and two nigerians came in and bought a can of dog food each. They asked the guy behind the cash register if he could open the can for them as he found it an odd request he asked them why. They replied that they wanted to eat it. He told them very clearly that it was for dogs and not for humans, but they still wanted to eat it. I don't know any nigerians and would be too embarrased to ask them about this practice. Would anyone know if this is normal for nigerians? Seems very strange to me! (this isn't race hate - this is a real question, ok?)

I don't believe you. You can't tell from looking whether someone is Nigerian or not. And I doubt they walked in saying, "Hello, we two are Nigerian fellows. Remember our nationality for when you post about us on IIN".

  LOL - As I said to Darkoil, the guy at the cash register knew who they were and where they were from because they'd been in loads of times before. It really is true. Happened at the Shell station on the Acton high road about twelve years ago.

if you think thats bad,taco truck meat........yeah,its fuckin' cats and dogs,i saw this with my own eyes,the ice cream man threw a cat in his truck........and i found not one,but two cat heads in the gutter a few blocks from my house......hhhhhhmmmmmmm

Well, in UK all dog food and cat food is tested by a human taster. The meat is of a decent quality..and..believe it or not..when Mad Cow disease was floating around, the first meats to be withdrawn were Pet Foods !!!
Eating a Cornish pasty or a can of stew meant for human consumption would probably be less nutrtious.
Many africans prefer the offal, like liver and kidneys to the the western preferences.
However, my husband worked in Nigeria for 3 years and never ate dog food, and he is there now and doesn't eat dog food.
The chinese feel nothing about eating dog meat and have farms of beagles and labradors for eating, and various other nationalities have their preferences. To me, the worst food is a Mc Donalds made of revolting bits of minced cow and disguised with salt and grease and served like a slimy cow pat in a bun. YUK! No worse than a can of Fido!

Ever stop to think they wanted you to think of them as strange? That maybe they were mindfraking the shopkeep?
Or maybe in their part of Nigeria some asshole decided to only sell dog food and that's all the townsfolk could eat, so they acquired a taste for it?
Or maybe they were poor and didn't know they could get a burger for the same price since no one took them aside and said "hey dudes, I like you and all but that shit is gross. Buy a burger, I insist...no no, I INSIST".

Now, I don't think they're gonna die from eating dog food...but do, let's continue on the list of weird shit people eat...starting with white people:

Haggis (scotland)
Tripe (england)
Fried Butter Sticks (America)
Crawdads (America)
Lobster (Everyone on the planet...I mean really, a sea bug?)
Chitterlings (Americans...forced on black americans then appropriated by white americans)
Shit (Germans)
Animal bones (anyone who has ever had Jello)
The Milk of another Animal outside your species (enough said)
Alligator (Americans)
Black Pudding (brits...i mean seriously, how vampiric can you get?)
Jellied Eels (Brits again!)
Marmite (Aussies, although I will admit, nutritional yeasts are tasty)
Spam. or for that matter, any canned meat.
Jalapeno Poppers (No, don't even try to justify fried cheese wrapped around a plant that's cousin to deadly Nightshade)
Rocky Mountain Oysters (ok that was for shits and giggles)
Geoducks (look em up, they're like something that causes Santorum).

There was a (white) guy in the newspaper recently whose job was to taste the cans of dogfood. Anyhow, if you read the ingredients on the can you will see that there is no more than 4% meat in dog food. The rest is made up with cereal, additives, veg. etc.

One angry girlfriend made her boyfriend shepherd's pie with dog food coz he was cheating on her - and he enjoyed it!

What about the French? How did they decide to eat snails and frogs' legs? I'm sure various countries eat various strange things.

AND as I used to work in an abbatoir I can tell you that there are stricter controls about what goes into animal food than the crap we humans are fed!!

  Wouldn't be so bad tasting dog food if it was only 4% meat, but we're talking meaty chunks in jelly type here - now that must be revolting especially cold!
  And yeah, thinking about it some countries do eat some strange things, don't they? Grasshoppers (asia), cats and dogs (korea), guinea pigs (don't remember), horses (france again) etc. Don't think the brits or the americans eat anything too strange. Seems like the french have some of the strangest habits out of many countries.

    It's 4% meat in that 'meaty' chunks in jelly that I'm talking about! Check out a tin. Dogs are carnivores but they're being treated like vegetarians with fake looking meat.
    
    The ingredients of animal feed are very stringently inspected and regulated. There is the fear of a build up in the food chain, nor can animals speak if they get sick and the companies are sued. I don't want to bore you but.... cattle are illegally injected with hormones to build muscle and it is up to vets to find the injection sites. If they don't we are eating the equivalent of 100 contraceptive pills in that one bite! In the UK, we export all our best meat as Europe won't take our crap - that's left for us to eat.
    
    In the USA they slid a bill through that food suppliers could add as much MSG as they wanted. It's an addictive brain altering drug and you could eat cardboard sprinkled with it and think it's delicious!! Fast food outlets, KFC, McDonald's, etc all use it - leading to people overeating and so obesity. But this was thrown out of court coz people are supposed to be intelligent enough to know to stop eating this crap!!
    
    Anyhow, saccharine and MSG are the main suspects for the increase in brain disorders, from brain tumours to Alzheimer's disease coz they cause lesions on the brain.
    
    If we follow the money - we find that these large multinationals make HUGE donations to government campaign funds, just like the tobacco industry.
