Is it normal for my throat to hurt when drinking cold green tea?

The grocery store had Diet Snapple Peach Green Tea on sale last week for 99cents/12pk of 16 oz bottles. I have been trying to drink it tonight but every time I take a sip it feels like I am swallowing a bunch of small needles in my throat! I drink HOT green tea every time I go to a Chinese restaurant and never have had problems, and enjoy HOT black, red, and sometimes even oolong tea at home. [Earl Grey tea w. some milk is by far my fav!] But I can't even finish half a bottle of this Snapple tea because it hurts my throat so much to drink! (When I try swallowing it triggers a memory of possibly trying to drink the same stuff a long time ago as well and having the same reaction- which would be why I don't usually drink iced green tea...I just bought it because it was on sale.]

I was just wondering, IIN?! Could it be an allergy to something in the tea or green tea itself?!

It's a side effect of the artificial sweetener.

Look up side-effects of artificial sweeteners.

I permanently cut out artificial sweeteners and preservatives from my diet awhile ago and I feel so much better:)

      That's an excellent point.

Chinese restaurant tea is unsweetened while bottled tea is full of corn syrup.

why not try brewing your own green tea instead of spending the $$$ on bottles?

        Thank you!

I suggest Steaz Iced Tea. It comes in a can and it's organic. I've heard some good things about Peace Tea.

Most of the major brands use artificial ingredients so, it starts to make you wonder how many people who experience "Strange Symptoms" that are the result of chemical bullshit?

He could brew his own or even better: buy some tea trees:)
Boxed tea rarely seems to artificial sweeteners, but I noticed that allot of them have soy lethicin.

um, corn syrup comes form corn.

high fructose corn syrup is from milled corn and hydrochloric acid - and HCl is also actually naturally occurring - your own body produces it after all.

so when it comes to "icky chemicals" corn syrup really isn't on the list. it's just not really "good" for you.

I knew it came form corn, but I was referring to artificial sweeteners and their ilk:)

              ah ok.

to be honest i don't mind those. i mean they're not for kids cos they're too small to handle the stuff but.... unsweetened tea is good for you

That's strange. It is probably something that only "Snapple" puts into there ingredients. Maybe your allergic to that something.
Iced green tea is great and healthy. Try a different brand =]

Teas contain tannins and astringents which can irritate the mucosal lining of your throat. Not at all uncommon.
