Is it normal for my mum to have had me at such a young age?

My mum was 18 when she had me, my dad four years older. Is it normal? The legal age in England is 16, so it was legal. But I get really embarrassed at how much much younger my parents are than everyone else's. I'm also worried I was a mistake- she can't have planned to have a kid at 18. However, she has had 2 kids after me. Does that change things?

I thought this post was going to be about having kids at 13 or 14.

There's a show that some of my friends' are into called "16 and pregnant."

    So, yes, it's normal IMO.

I think it depends on her own situation as to whether or not it was normal to have a kid. Some people are well-equipped at early ages and some people are never equipped at all. As for you being unplanned- I wouldn't put much thought into it. Some of the best moments in life are unplanned. Apparently she loved you so much that she wanted two more of you, so it must have been a pleasant surprise. =)

It's probably a different story in England, but if you were in America, I'd say it is MUCH MUCH MUCH better to be born to a younger loving generation than to an older, conservative, violent, train-kids-with-pain generation.

My mom and dad had me when they were 17 and 19, and they were pretty strict. I don't think the way kids my age are being raised serves society very well. We're entitled, loud, brash, disrespectful, and hyper-confident. Not to mention rude and unaccustomed to the kind of hard labor or "dull" service work that seems to be coming back to the USA. I'm a sophomore and already know nearly half my graduating class across the USA with bachelors degrees won't find work in our field or even work that requires a BA/BS. Most new jobs in the USA are low wage service jobs. It's the new normal, but kids my age grow up with everyone telling us we can do whatever we want, and almost no one--especially parents--forcing us to do what we really don't want to. And no one checks the way we talk to adults. I think it's one reason the service industry sucks so much.

Just my two cents worth, but I think there're lots of benefits growing up to moderately strict parents. I'm glad I did, even though I didn't think that before getting to college and away from them.

I actually meant to vote "yes" instead of "no". Sorry about that. 0_o I think it's normal-she probably DIDNT plan it but people of all ages (past pubety most of the time) crave sex. Here where I live (the US) there are actually a few couples that get married and PLAN 2 have kids that age and do fine. (I used 2 wish my parents were younger sometimes when I was growing up b/c my mom was 36 when she had me-big generation gap.Love her still the same tho.).

I think that 18 is an OK age to have a child - after all, you are considered an adult at 18 in societies like the UK and the US.

As a matter of fact, I'm jealous of people with young parents, because having older parents like I do has quite a few disadvantages, the biggest and most obvious one being, of course, that they will likely die when I'm still young. At least you will get to grow old with your mom, which is something I'd give an arm and a leg to be able to do.
