Is it normal for my mother to act this way?

Well I am from India n my mother is 50 n she is extremely irritable at times. I have 2 brothers n she hates my elder brother since he got married. She was always a little strange which didn't cause much problems but now she becomes angry on simple things. She is usually good but it takes little things to upset her n she yells n swears.
My father lives seperately n has another wife since a long time(>20 years) n my mother is single since. I have love my mother n intend to take care of her but she's making it so hard on me. I am a med student (intern) but cannot concentrate because of this drama in the house.
Long story short, I am wondering if her age has something to do with her behaviour? Do all women behave like this after 40? I am irritated cuz there was another scene in the house just now n don't know what to do

    Right, sounds like menopause. Try doing your school work at school or the library or a cafe so you can concentrate.

    She's most likely menopausal, maybe you can refer her to a good gynecologist.

    My mother is approaching her 50's and she has been angry since I was born. Perhaps your mother is depressed because she is single and has been for a long time. Now her kids are moving away and she isn't going to have anything but she tells herself that if she is going to do anything right it will be molding her kids into what she believes is right.
