Is it normal for my mom to call me worthless and a disappointment?

I'm 18 years of age, recently graduated high school and living with my family. My mom has been telling me that I'm worthless for a few years now. I am not a bad kid, I'm an average kid but not bad. I do not go out to parties, I do not drink, I do not do drugs, I did not get into trouble at school, I have manners, teachers loved me, etc. However, my mother tells me that I am worthless and compares me to other people's children (ex: "Other people's children clean the whole house and feed their family and what do you do??? My daughter is worthless!!"). I admit, I forget to do chores now and then but the fact that she calls me worthless and a disappointment doesn't feel right. She'll also cry and scream to God for a new daughter when she's feeling super vocal.

I voted normal, because my mom calls me that too...maybe I need to re-evaluate my life.

Well I don't know the full story. But I wouldn't expect a mom to say that about her children. Even if you are a bad kid. If I had kids I would never say that. That's terrible.

She sounds crazy, especially the bit about other children cleaning the whole house and feeding their families!

It would be good if you could move out: any chance of that?

Honey, how are we to know your mom's side of this story you are telling us here? I suspect that there is more going on here than you are willing to reveal. If that is not the case (which I doubt very highly), then perhaps you could relate your feelings to an older family relative? One of your mom's siblings perhaps. Is your mom close to one of her sisters? Is there an aunt you could confide in? I would suggest taking this indirect route to let your mom know just how much pain she is causing you. But if it is a case of you needing to get your shit together and mom has come to the point of being tired of your raggedy-ass shit and is telling you that in no certain terms . . . well, mother knows best.

For like, I don't know, the 20th time, I am not the sailor. Seems to me the old guy must have died. Not just changed his user. So show a little respect.
