Is it normal for my mil to want to give us her home/land and move out?

My mother in law wants to move out of her house and get an apartment. She's in her fourties and says she knows she can't take care of the 6+ acres and wants to give the property (and the mortgage) to us, my husband and I. Problem is, we've all been living together for 2+ years, and lets just say its time for SOMEONE to move out, but no one is financially ready for that. We're all dependant on one another's income. My husband and I don't make enough to move, and neither does my father in law. My mother in law is unemployed, either unable or unwilling to work (diabetic and depressed). She occasionally threatens to sell the house, and this upsets my husband because he has lived there his entire life and wants to keep the "family property". (As a sidenote: His parents are usually nice and we get along well on most days.) Is this situation normal or should I start looking for somewhere else asap?

Get it in gear and take over the place. Opportunity only knocks once.

    • Only if you actually want to take on a 30,000 mortgage. My husband and I make minimum wage full time and bring home about 1920.00 a month, but once you take out all the bills, there's nothing left.
