Is it normal for my kids to lie about having a girlfriend?

About a week ago I was cleaning out my sons room and under his bed I found a box of tissues (some were wadded up so must have had a cold and not told me) men’s health magazines and male underwear catalogue cut-outs. He is obviously reading these to see what he should look like to impress his girlfriend but I feel it’s bad for his self-esteem. Why would he lie to me about having a girlfriend?

Are you sure he's not masturbating to the men's underwear cut outs and maybe it wasn't snot in the kleenex?

I'm sorry but i had to laugh when you metioned the box of tissues under the bed.

I'd say he's trying to live his own life privately because when i was his age, I'm guessing 14-17, I didn't like the idea of my parents "nawwww"ing at me having a girlfriend, though I never got to the stage of a relationship anyways.

I'd say he's a little shy or embarrassed.

I'm pretty sure you ripped this of Yahoo! Answers...

    He's probably gay, btw.

He doesn't have a girlfriend, he's just masturbating. Don't say anything about it.
