Is it normal for my friends to act this way towards me?

I've been into anime for a while now and I do collect things like figures, manga, DVDs and a few other things like pillow cases and all that.

My friends don't really understand what I like about them so they call me weird, tell people and just make fun of me. Not in the way where you'd consider them bullies instead of friends just in a playful way, even though sometimes it gets out of hands whenever they want to attack me or something.

I don't really like real women, they just don't appeal to me very much but I still decided to try and see if I could change. I went on a date with a girl who I guess liked me back in Middle School, she didn't know I was into anime and all that.

One of my friends, Mark, apparently had a crush on this girl and when he found out I went on a date with her he revealed all this information to her regarding my hobbies and even exaggerated most of it, says my other friend Miguel. I really liked the date we had, it was fun and refreshing and she said she felt the same way but now she won't even talk to me.

Most of my friends are standing up for me calling Mark a jerk and stuff but I told them to forget about it because I'm not the kind of guy to start things, even when it's complete bullshit.

So now, I got absolutely no girl who likes me or will accept me and Mark is still spreading rumors and talking shit about me, I pretty much ignore the dude and everyone stupid enough to actually believe them but now I'm back to my old anti-social self, completely afraid of even leaving my room. I can tell my friends are worried about me but I just... don't care anymore.

What should I do? I can't even tell where my future is heading anymore, I don't want to be lonely in the end.

    I'm into anime as well, I know right hard to believe.

    I think that you should just ignore them or at least show them your world. That's actually what I did with some of my friends. Like when they come over I turn on Netflix and we watch some High School of the Dead. Although, tell them to watch Adultswim on Cartoonetwork, the anime on there is pretty cool to.

      True adult swim has cool anime, but HOTD? really that is in between Anime and Hentai, i believe the name for it was ecchi? Basicly nasty shite, but remember my opinion if you think otherwise ignore me.

        It is ecchi. However, and I know this is going to be hard to believe, but HOTD actually has a good storyline with great character development. Really, if you take away the boobs it would still be a great show. Also, we don't just watch HOTD, we also watch RIN: Daughters of Mesonyme. It's pretty much the story of an immortal female detective who solves paranormal cases. Their is some mild fanservice but nothing like HOTD.

        I respect your opinion completely. Adultswim has some awesome stuff besides Bleach, like Cowboy BeBop. Which has Steven Blum, who hopefully I get to meet at AnimeExpo this year. Oh also on Netflix that's a good anime is GunXSword.

        Your friend helped you out. That girl was a loser anyways and not worth your time if she can't think for herself and draw her own conclusions.

        I like anime/manga too. :D I haven't had time to watch or read any in a while though. :( I also don't have any money haha.

        I think it's something to be proud of. If I hear someone reads manga you are automatically awesome.

    Feel your pain, I have been into anime and manga for a while now and my male friends spread shit as well. In your situation I do think the best thing is to spread rumour about him, as bad as it may seem it will prevent him doing the same to you and from there you can continue the way you have done. It seems girls at my school find anime and manga quite cool and interesting so don't be afraid to admit it.

      Same here, mostly cause their vision of anime is straight up hentai, which i then insure them that they're different, to no avail, but fortunately i have friends more intelligent, so they understand me.

      OP i think you need more intelligent friends who understand you, that being said i will be your friend cause i understand you. :)

    That Mark guy is definitely a douche. I'm glad your real friends don't actually pick on you hatefully for liking anime. I'm into anime myself, and if I kept being playfully nagged for it over and over I might eventually get self conscious and annoyed. One thing's for sure, you won't be lonely forever just because you like anime. Honestly I think you need to find some more friends who like what you like. It's easy to feel alienated when you're around so many people who aren't into what you like. And get to know some girls who are into anime. You might feel like right now you're not really into real girls, but once you meet a real one that has more in common with you, you'd probably really like her. :)

    It's totally normal! I swear, like, 2/3 of people have seen anime and not known it was anime. Ranma 1/2, Inuyasha, Sailor Moon, Yugioh!, Dragonball Z (I think its anime, anyways. It is totally like one, if not!)... Those were a part of most kids who are around their teens now's childhood.
    Just find yourself a girl who likes it. I like it, but I'm probably way too young for you, anyways, plus I'm taken. Haha.
    Well, there are plenty of us. Plenty of people who like anime. There are conventions! Look up some cons in your state. Meet your people! xD

    Just make new friends. Your friends are jerks, not accepting you for who you are.
    People who like anime are cool. I find nothing wrong with it. It's as harmless as liking chocolate cake or candy. Not like chocolate is as awesome as anime, but you get what I'm saying, right?
    Well, this is coming from a 14-year-old girl who still has imaginary friends, and didn't actually have friends until she was in 4th grade, and her friends are the outcasts of the school, but that's besides my point.
    When you find a group of friends who accept you for who you are, have the same interests as you, and are totally and cometely awesome, your life becomes, like, 20% easier and happier. You don't have to try to fit in, defend yourself, or anything like that. Y

    As much as id like for some girl who likes anime to notice me id rather she doesnt, especially in a place like this where its looked down upon and people who do watch keep quiet about their hobbies. I havent given up but i do understand now that my chances of having a sweet high school relationship are really low. I dont want to confront mark because then this whole thing will escalate to more than just rumors.

    Screw your friends. They aren't real friends if this is how they act. In regards to your female issues, there are women that love anime as much as u do. I love anime, I don't have the figurines but I have the other stuff. We exist and u just need to look.

    Seems like you should fight fire with fire. You ignoring it is just letting it get worse. Confront the girl you went out with and explain your situation along with your hobby. Being the better man is more confronting him about the problem instead of trying to get away from it.imo
